FAQ'S (FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS)

Reggio Emilia?

The Reggio Emilia philosophy of education was birthed in a small town of Italy traced all the way back to the beginning of the 1900's.  However, in 1960's the municipality of Reggio Emilia was founded with a strong partnership between the organisation and the local Council with a common understanding that Education is the responsibility of the entire community.

There are 12 guiding principles of the Educational Project of Reggio Emilia.  These are:

1. Children are active protagonists of growth, and development processes.

2.  The 100 Languages.

3. Participation.

4. Listening.

5. Learning as a process of individual and group construction.

6. Educational research.

7. Educational documentation.

8. Progettazione.  (Italian word for collaboration within project work).

9.  Organisation.

10. Environment, spaces and relations.

11.  Professional development.

12. Assessment.

As a community, we will take the opportunity to grow together in our understanding and expression of these principles at CURIOSITY.

Today the Reggio Children - Loris Malaguzzi Centre Foundation believe that, "the community at large, are places where the rights to well-being and learning of both childen and adults are put into practice".  A place where relationships are formed between all stakeholders, the materials, environment and the world.

We are optimistic that you will see true expressions of the Reggio Emilia philosophy in practice within CURIOSITY and look forward to bringing your along on this learning journey.

Side Note:  I was privileged to be part of Australia's cohort of teachers that attended the International Conference at Reggio Emilia in March 2019.  Being able to see the principles of Reggio Emilia in practice was extremely inspirational and insightful.

I look forward to sharing more with you in future editions of our iNewsletter.

How will 'Rest & Relaxation' be built into my child's day?

At Curiosity we program for the whole child and will be responsive to the emotional and physical needs of the individual child.  These moments will be provided both in and outside for the opportunity to connect with nature and also to provide comfort indoors.  We believe that having the opportunity to rest and relax assist a child's self regulation allowing them to sustain play and learning.

Provisions are in place for children to relax in quiet areas within the Centre and a designated rest space with mattresses provided for the children.  Families are asked to send along a small pillow, sheet and blanket for their child which can be stored at CURIOSITY.  These items need to be clearly labelled in a small bag and sent to the centre each Monday.  On Friday's we encourage families to take their child's items home for laundering if used throughout the week.

For ideas on easy to manage sheets please see the following supplier, however these items can be easily made through making alterations to a single bed sheet also.
