Wominjeka everyone

We would like to remind you that our last community event, our end of year celebration, will be next

week on Wednesday the 27th of November from 4-5:30pm.

We will have a special activity of an African Drums Incursion conducted by Melbourne Djembe! A

snack will also be provided: couscous and lots and lots of watermelon!

If your children are not booked in, you all are welcome to come and join the event anyway, however

you will need to join in the fun with your children.

We will need some volunteers in preparing the couscous on the day, Bianca Carr has already offered

to help us and we would like someone else on our team. We will be meeting in the OSHC kitchen

at 1pm. We can bribe our volunteers with fresh coffee.

Circus Performance:

Sadly the circus has left its residence at Brunswick North West OSHC for this

term. The good news is Joh and Tara (and special guests) will be back next year! Last week the children enjoyed a clown workshop. There were red noses, whoopie cushions, and silly hats. We

have never seen so much laughter over whoopie cushion acts!

Talent Show:

We had another student led talent show this week. The students are becoming quite

the experts at talent and event management. We were proud to see better organization practices and smoother transitions between acts. It’s amazing what happens when you encourage self-reflection and critical thinking. All play is an opportunity to learn!

Pancakes for Breakfast:

Students showed a great interest in cooking, even in the morning! They love preparing their

own food, especially pancakes!

Cooking Club: Making Jam!

The abundance of neighborhood fruit has inspired us to make our own jam. With expert

guidance, the children cut the fruit. We had trouble preventing them from eating the locals!

If you have an abundance of fruit we could make into jam or chutney, bring it in. If you’re

got a great fail-safe recipe, we would love to have that too. Making something out of food

that would normally go to waste is a great way of thinking about how the environment provides

for us.

Down ball donations:

This humble rubber ball is our most popular play equipment. You can’t play down-ball without them! If your little ones may have accidentally come home with one in their pocket, could you please return them to us. They have become a rare commodity. We would also love donations

(p.s. they come from Kmart).

Sustainability:

You’re going to hear a lot more about our sustainable practices next year! Today we started with a

discussion about the huge battery plant in South Australia (who have just received a grant to double their capacity). We talked about how a battery can store energy generated by solar. As Maya so beautifully put it, “the sun doesn’t shine at night but we still need light”.

“From little things, big things grow.” Watch this space.

Important Notes and Reminders:

SunSmart Policy: From September 1 until April 30, all students are required to have their hats and

encouraged to wear sunscreen. At this stage, we are checking the UV daily, and it is moderate (Level 3) between 10:30am – 2pm. Excursions in Term 4Just a reminder that all the excursions are scheduled on Thursdays from 3:45-4:45/5:00pm for the students grade4-6. If your child wish to participate please complete a permission form. Fabric and sewing material Donations: if you have any spare fabric and/or sewing materials, we will appreciate any kind of donations.
