 Grandparents and Special Friends Day

Our Grandparents and Special Friends day last Friday morning was a wonderful celebration and it was brilliant to see the campus buzzing with activity. Everyone who attended had a great time interacting and participating in activities and the new kitchen was certainly put to good use for morning tea. We are so excited that we can finally get back to hosting these sorts of events more regularly after a few years of interruptions. Click on the link below to have a look at some of the photos from the morning:

Wellbeing Workshops

Next week, all of the Scotsburn students (along with Buninyong campus students) have the opportunity to participate in some wellbeing and mental health workshops. These have been provided at no cost to the students, organised through the school’s wellbeing team, headed by Narelle Sullivan. It is fantastic that we have the opportunity to participate in these programs, as we know the importance of the overall health and wellbeing of our students.

SC2 and SC3 will participate in sessions run by PROJECT ROCKIT, who are an organisation that create spaces where all young people have access to demonstrate respect, acceptance, creative expression and real leadership skills. They send highly trained, passionate young presenters into schools to run workshops that empower students to lead positive change at school, online and beyond.

Details of these two workshops are below:

SC2 - BELONG - Build empathy and friendship

BELONG unites students to build inclusive school communities, with strategies and empathy to combat social exclusion and increase awareness of diverse perspectives.

When: Monday 5th December

Where: Buninyong Campus, 2pm - 3.30pm (students will bus down to Buninyong campus after lunchtime and finish the day there)

SC3 Grade 5s - STEP UP - Launch everyday leadership

STEP UP launches students into a mindset of social leadership and strength, exploring their individual capabilities to take positive action on causes and issues that are important to them.

When: Tuesday 6th December

Where: Buninyong Campus, 11.30am - 1pm

SC3 Grade 6s - SYNC - Navigate the online world together

SYNC is an empowering introduction to the digital world, exploring the opportunities and challenges of online communication, as well as providing strategies to navigate conflict online.

When: Tuesday 6th December

Where: Buninyong Campus, 2pm - 3.30pm

All SC3 students will bus down to Buninyong at recess and will finish the day at the Buninyong Campus

On Tuesday 6th December, SC1 will participate in an online workshop at Scotsburn - ‘A Day of Friendship’ by the organisation URSTRONG. The workshop focuses on empowering our children with the skills they need to get friendships right in schools by teaching them skills, along with a unique “language of friendship”. All students will need to bring along a soft toy from home for role-playing activities that do not make any noise.

Scotsburn End of Year Pool Day - Event on Compass

Our end of year Scotsburn Pool Fun Day is now on Compass. Please when you get a chance, jump on and complete the payment and consent. It is always a highlight of the end of year celebrations and we can’t wait! Last week you should have also received a note with all the information regarding our busy schedule of end of year events and activities. If you have misplaced it, there is also a copy sent out via Compass.

Reverse Advent Calendar

This year we will again be participating in a reverse advent calendar, with each class filling a box of non-perishable items to provide to those requiring some assistance over the holiday period. Each class has a box in their room and you should have received a note last week with the day that your child is to bring in an item. This is a wonderful activity for the students to participate in, building the values of giving, empathy and care for others.

On the last few days of the year, each class may also organise their own separate gift giving arrangements.

Icy Poles are back!

Icy poles are back! The grade 6 boys will be selling icy poles on the old building on Friday for $1. Remember to bring you coins!

End of Year Scotsburn Concert and Picnic

A reminder to put in your calendar our end of year concert and picnic. It will be held this year on Friday 17th of December, which is Friday of Week 11. The concert and picnic will be running at an earlier time this year, during the school day between 2pm - 4pm. This change in time has had to be made due to changes to the employment agreement for teachers and Education Support staff, and we want to make sure that we have all in attendance for this wonderful celebration. Hopefully sending out the dates this early will provide everyone with enough time to make arrangements to be in attendance. Feel free to come and have a chat if you need any more information on this.

SC1 Learning Snapshot

Week 8 was another week full of adventure and fun! On Thursday, we had our community walk around Buninyong. We visited the new fire station where we were treated to a tour and were able to see the new station, fire trucks, and equipment, along with the old horse-drawn fire pumper. From there we had morning tea in the park, a walk through town with a quick visit to the veterinary clinic, and then up to the Police Station. Students were given a tour of the station and the historic horse stables out back. We looked at the equipment in the police cars as well as the equipment used by police officers. All up, we walked about 5km and had a wonderful time! Please click on the link to see more great photos from our adventure. Click Here

Next Tuesday, SC1 will be participating in an online Wellbeing Workshop. We are excited to be joining in on a ‘day of friendship’. Research shows that relationships are the heart of wellbeing and learning. The workshop focuses on empowering our children with the skills they need to get friendships right in schools by teaching them skills, along with a unique “language of friendship”. All students will need to bring along a soft toy from home for role-playing activities that do not make any noise. If you have any questions, please ask.

Make sure you check out this week’s BPS Author in Focus, in the whole school newsletter section, for some great writing pieces from SC1.

Friday last week, all students were sent home with a note about our upcoming events. This has also been put on Compass for your convenience.

Thanks,

Ana

SC2 Learning Snapshot

SC2 students were busy last week between internet outages working on their celebrations google slide. On Friday we had a huge day celebrating Grandparents and Special Friends day, which was a huge success followed by a shared lunch to celebrate different celebrations and festivals around the world. It has been wonderful to see how excited the students have been learning about their celebration or festival. The students put a lot of time and effort into their google slide presentations incorporating our inquiry units’ essential questions. After our feast, some students presented their projects to the class.

This week we are going to be looking at shapes in Maths, so don’t forget to ask your child/ren about 2D and 3D shape names and their properties.

On Monday, next week (December 5th) we are very fortunate to be participating in a wellbeing workshop down at Buninyong Campus. Students will start the day at Scotsburn then be bussed to Buninyong after lunch. Please pick up your child/ren from the Buninyong campus as our workshop finishes at the end of the day.

Have a great week,

Dani

SC3 Learning Snapshot

This week in SC3, our Grade 5s are putting their finishing touches on their 2023 Leadership application letters. As part of this process, students have been asked to choose 3 options of teams that they would like to be part of next year, along with reasons and supporting evidence as to why they would be suitable for the position. Next year with so many Grade 6 students, we are in the unique position where we will also be offering the role of Campus Leader to a couple of students. Students who apply for this role will be required to participate in interviews later this week. The applications that have come in so far are well constructed and looking very persuasive, so it will be a difficult process to make selections.

Our Grade 6 boys are currently involved in a few end of year and graduation arrangements, including writing speeches and pieces for our school magazine and concert. Tully is off on his Secondary School orientation day today which I am sure he will love, with Aiden and Xavier having their days in a few weeks.

On Friday SC3 had another opportunity to work with SC1 for the afternoon. We love these opportunities to build stronger campus connections as well as provide some mentoring for our younger students. We had heaps of fun!

Our Scotsburn Concert item is coming along nicely too - we are very excited to perform already!

Have another brilliant week everyone!

Jarrod

Specialist Interviews

Just a reminder that Jess and Liz are available for interviews on Thursday 15th of December only. Due to us teaching at both campuses, we might be required to hold these interviews at Buninyong Campus. We will advise you of our interview locations as soon as possible.
