Principal’s Report

Welcome to the final newsletter of 2022!

In the New year, we will be publishing the newsletter once a month.  Assemblies will continue to be held each Friday fortnight at 3.00pm. Our last assembly for this year will be held on Friday 16th December @ 2.45pm- we hope to see you all there as we  congratulate our graduating year 6 students.

Much has been accomplished this year and I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone associated with Moreland Primary School for contributing to our many successes as a school in 2022.

Our academic results in many areas have been very encouraging again this year, as has the continued improvement in the attendance rate and our enrolments for 2022- we have the highest enrolment numbers we’ve seen at MPS for a while.

I really have loved working with the children, parents and staff. I firmly believe we are on the right track in most areas, and as long as we all team together, I am certain we will continue to achieve ongoing success!

Grade lists are almost set. As always, this has been a very time-consuming task and teachers work hard to ensure they get the mix right. A great deal of forward planning and thought goes into the placement of each child. Children are placed after taking into consideration a wide range of factors including friendship groups, gender, academic, student wellbeing and ‘social’ balance, as well as family issues.

Below is a copy of the staffing list for 2023:

I would like to take this opportunity to farewell the following staff members.  Some staff have been successful in gaining positions at another school, some are unfortunately unwell (and we wish them a speedy recovery), one staff member is moving interstate and some have decided to take 12 months leave for personal reasons. We look forward to still seeing some of these staff members doing CRT (casual replacement teaching) in 2023. Our best wishes go out to Rosa Pantaleo, Leila Khattar, Jennah Smith, Verity Sathasivam, Emily Mah, Thomas O’Halloran, Abbie Melchior, Harriet Dunn and Carley Ternes. We thank them for all their work and dedication to the children at Moreland PS.

To our Grade 6 students who leave us at the end of the year – thank you for your contributions to our school throughout your time here, but particularly this year. You have been a FANTASTIC bunch of kids and we are very proud of you. We will miss you! Good luck! And please come back and visit us.

To those families who will no longer be at Moreland Primary School next year – we wish you well.

Several families have been associated with the school for many years and it is something of an end of an era, in many ways, for the family and the school. Good luck too, to those children who are moving house and transferring to new schools in 2023.

Finally, a Happy Christmas and a fantastic New Year to you and your families. I hope you get the opportunity to spend time with people close to you - and have a very relaxing break! I look forward to working with you all in 2023. Take care and stay safe!

John Williams Plaque

On Thursday the 1st of December, Mr. Williams, our principal prior to Maria, came to see all of his work towards making the courtyard a fun and exciting place. The four school leaders had the inspiring role of showing Mr. Williams his work. Alongside Maria, the school leaders (Matilda, Orpheus, Abby and Jacob), presented a plaque with his name, in honour of his 45 years of teaching. Mr. Williams then toured the courtyard and the new and improved library. The courtyard will always remain as one of Mr. William’s many successes at Moreland Primary. The students that were lucky enough to experience the benefits of the new and improved courtyard will never forget the name John Williams.

The students at Moreland Primary School wish John the very best, and we hope to see him again at some point in the future.
