Challenge, Persistence and Pride

Welcome back to school for 2023! For those who don’t know who I am, my name is Lea Drury, and I am the Year 4/5 teacher this year.

This is a photo of myself with a project I did during the school holidays. I have always loved reading and so creating a little book nook world that sits on my bookshelf was something that I wanted to do.

When I look at this photo, I think of the parallels to the teaching and learning of students. This project took a great many hours to complete and required a great deal of persistence to complete it. While it was very challenging at times (some of the pieces are tiny!), there was such a sense of pride and excitement when I finally finished.

I regularly see this in the classroom. I see students getting excited about new projects or tasks, facing challenges, persisting, and showing great pride in completing their learning, which is why I love teaching!
