Recentering Yourself and Having Another Go

What an exciting start to 2023 to be joining the team at Holy Family Primary School.

Hello everyone, my name is Debra, and I am one of the new Education Support Officers in the junior team.

A little bit about me, I am a 3rd year Education student, majoring in special education. Outside of the classroom you will find me catching waves on the beach with my husband, knitting scarves or cooking up a storm in the kitchen. I have always had a strong passion for helping children achieve whatever they put their minds to. For this

the reason I aim to bring this mindset into the classroom and work with students to excel in areas vital to them.

This summer I set a task for myself to learn how to roller skate. With no prior experience, horrible balance and the help of my husband, I geared up and each day went out to practice becoming good at this skill that I wanted to master.

There were more grazed knees than there was skating, however this experience taught me the importance of not giving up and taking every fall as an opportunity to re-centre myself and give it another go. This truly is the realityand beauty of learning. Making mistakes, falling over and over again, asking for help and giving things another go is what make the learning experience memorable and get us one step closer to achieving what we want.

I am excited to see and be part of all the memories students make this year.
