Queen's Jubilee

Avenue of Honour

Aitken College was proud to participate in the ‘Planting Trees for The Queen's Jubilee’ program. This project was jointly funded by the College and the federal Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (DAWE)..

To mark the Jubilee (70 years of service) of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, the Federal Government provided $15m in funding across the nation, to eligible groups and organisations for community-based tree planting events.

Aitken College utilised their grant to plant 22 Quercus trees along the entrance driveway into the school, creating an avenue of honour.

The College welcomed Ms Maria Vamvakinou MP, the Federal Labor Member for Calwell to dedicate the project, along with Principal, Mrs Josie Crisara and some of our College student and staff leaders.

“Creating this avenue of trees will leave a legacy for future generations of students. It adds to the biodiversity on site and increasing the tree canopy. We are grateful for the opportunity to be part of this project,“ Mrs Crisara explained. “It will create a microclimate, such as shade, wind protection and temperature control, providing habitat and food source for our wildlife in an ever-increasing housing development suburb.”

Maria spoke on the importance on environment and learning the history of our nation.
