From the Head of Sport

This weekend sees the end of ISA sport for the term. All games have been arranged around the demands of the School production which opens tonight. Players are reminded that they are to attend all training and games then head over to rehearsals afterwards.

Congratulations

Netball

Zara Perisce-Burrell (Year 9) has this week been named as a member of the 2022/2023 Western Sydney Academy of Sport Netball squad. Zara is a dedicated young sportswoman and is to be congratulated on the time she has put into netball to gain selection in this squad.

Tennis

Neil Geikie has been busy on the tennis court and was Runner-Up at the Central West Champion of Champions tennis tournament for the 14 boys two weeks ago.

Neil has also qualified to play in the NSW Champion of Champions tournament which is being held at Nepean this weekend. We wish him all the best at this tournament.

Rowing

Three of our students represented BMGS over the weekend by competing in the Rowing NSW Independent Schools Championships on Saturday, 19th November at the Sydney International Regatta Centre.

It was with great excitement that the new BMGS Zootie design finally made its first appearance after a long wait (COVID.)

Olivia Harris (Year 11/12) started the day in the 2km Division 1 Schoolgirl Single Scull (Open Age) and achieved a silver medal with a time of 8.47 mins.

Later in the day, Year 8 students Jessica Harris  and Sophia Whitelaw teamed up in the 1km Div 1 Schoolgirl Year 9 Double Scull and achieved another silver medal for BMGS with a time of 4.12 mins.

It was a brilliant effort with all three girls coming home with a Silver medal for BMGS.

Special mention is made of coach Daniel Waddell of Nepean Rowing Club for all his time, effort and for providing the boats for the girls to use at this event.

BMGS Tennis – Round 5

This week we went to Bathurst and played against Scots All Saints College for the second time. It was Odds versus Evens and Evens versus Odds.

It was a lovely sunny day in Bathurst. During our tennis training on Friday afternoon, we practised serving and being more consistent in our play. David is making a habit of getting into close matches, this time losing 8 - 6 in the tiebreaker after the sets were locked at one set each. It was an exhibition game so he still ended up with a win. Overall, the Odds team lost 14 sets to 4.

Our Evens side were fortunate to have a reserve with one of our players feeling slightly unwell, but who soldiered on in the doubles. Marlowe and Lee playing in a new doubles combination bounced back after losing the first set, to have a win taking out the tiebreak 7-2. Hugo H played in the singles this week and had another win in a tight match, winning 8-6 in the tiebreak. Overall, the Evens team lost 16 sets to 4.

This was our final weekend against other schools. On Thursday this week, we started our BMGS Odds versus BMGS Evens games. We will play three more singles on Thursday afternoon at Wentworth Falls and our doubles on Friday afternoon. More about that next week.

BMGS Junior girls vs Barker College

The BMGS Junior Girls' team were locked in an arm wrestle last weekend, with the final score reflecting a 2-2 draw against Barker College. Moving forward, the girls need to focus on getting the ball down the other end of the field and reducing their sideways movement. The girls are reminded to practise initiating the touch when they are in possession of the ball, as this leads to more control in the ruck.

BMGS Junior boys vs Oakhill College

In a very close game that went down to the wire, the Junior BMGS Boys' Touch team managed to hold out their opposition, and defeat Oakhill College 9-8. BMGS were able to control key plays and swing the momentum in their favour at some crucial moments throughout the game. Congratulations to the player of the game, Hunter Costigan.

BMGS Senior Boys vs Redlands

In a very entertaining match, the Senior Boys' team were able to secure a 8-6 win over Oakhill College. The Senior BMGS boys are to be commended on their speed in attack which led to many scoring opportunities. Congratulations to the player of the game, Sidney Edwards.
