Wilderness Education

Year 8 Multi-Skilled Excursion

Year 8 students recently took part in a Multi-Skilled adventurous journey hosted by the Wilderness Education Department.

Students used canoes to travel across Lake Lyell from Lithgow into Rydal. At Rydal they were tasked with winning their dinner through exciting bush challenges. It was also here where they spent time Mountain Biking, warming up on dirt roads, then flowing onto the single trail that tested the students ability to think fast and maintain control through some tight turns and rough terrain.

The next day we headed back up the mountains to build upon the skill of Abseiling they had learnt in Year 7. This time students were given the opportunity to complete an abseil of 30m+ which they gladly accepted.

Finally, we hiked our way into Hat Hill canyon. Students would need to wade, swim, duck and scramble through the canyon and their efforts were rewarded by the breathtaking green walls that towered either side of us. The young people reflected on the Jurassic beauty the canyon held and noted how special their Blue Mountains home is.

We extend a big thank you to Ms Stubenrauch (Camp Coordinator) for making it all possible.
