Bell Shakespeare Work Experience

I was recently fortunate enough to be chosen to attend a weeklong work experience program at the Bell Shakespeare Theatre Company in Sydney. And, I can honestly say that it changed my whole perception of theatre and the arts for the better.

Together with 16 other students we made our way from all over Australia, some even flying from Hobart or Darwin to the heart of the city to undergo five days of intensively fun and transformative behind-the-scenes work, practical projects and people-meeting.

We talked to the artistic director of the company, Mr Peter Evans, as well as speaking and asking questions to the philanthropy, social media, design, advertising and tech and stage crew departments.

We were given projects that required collaboration, teamwork, initiative and graphic/design skills. We were also granted the privilege of going backstage at the opera house, setting up sound systems and mock advertising campaigns as well as meeting the cast of Bell’s current musical ‘The Lovers’ (a re-imagining of A Midsummer Night’s Dream), which was a magical musical that I would recommend to everyone.

Overall, I will never forget the people I met through this program and the insight it has given me into the industry of the arts. Thanks to all at Bell Shakespeare!

It's Opening Night!

This year's Year 7 to 9 production of A Christmas Carol opens tonight for a three-performance season.

We wish everyone involved in the production - cast and crew - the very best for tonight and tomorrow.
