Junior School

The Junior School at Wentworth Falls was very busy with the Nativity this week. The performance took place on Thursday evening and it was an enormous success! Many thanks must go to the staff for their time and patience – Mrs Cooney, Mrs Lewis, Mrs Fox, Ms Boyd and especially our Director Ms Walters have done an outstanding job.

Many thanks too to the Educators, and even casual teachers like Ms Gorman, who have stepped in whenever they were needed. I can’t wait to see the show again next week at our Springwood campus.

Over the last week, many of our Year 5 students put themselves forward to stand for Junior School Captain. This takes a great deal of courage and I am incredibly impressed by the students for their integrity, their willingness to serve and cast forward a vision for the Junior School. Their kindness in congratulating the winners, and managing their own disappointment was wonderful. Those children may yet have success as House Captains, and I look forward to having all of Year 6 serve the school in a number of capacities.

The students who were elected Junior School Captains for 2023 are:

Isaak Brajkovic and Ruby Carter

Congratulations to those students, and many thanks to the outstanding Year 6 students who have served us all this year. I look forward to honouring those students next week as they celebrate their graduation.

These next few weeks are busy, so please check communications sent home this week which gives an overview of this. Praying for our whole Junior School community as we navigate these busy weeks and then get a really great break!

BMGS Swish played an awesome game. With Mr Hunter away, I was their coach for the night and they totally stepped up to what I needed them to do, to walked away with a comfortable win. We always had two brilliant defenders in place to really make the opposition work hard to get the ball down their end. The person who scored the most points during each five minute change over got to stay on the court and as a result, just about everyone on the team scored. Jack L was the highest goal scorer, but not far behind him was Thomas H, Isaac B and Kai H. I challenged the boys to do a set play involving the rebound off the backboard with two players. Congratulations to Thomas S and Kai H who mastered this play early on in the game. The boys won 37-19.

The BMGS Slam Dunks have improved out of sight! The girls really got it together to walk away with a respectable loss. They lost 56-24, which is an improvement from their previous game against this team. It was great to see Charlotte S go on the attack and even managed to turn over the play a few times, resulting in goals for her team. Hannah L is an impressive goal scorer and managed to get most of the points for her team. The girls are passing and rebounding more successfully and it was great to see Isabella R getting a lot of the rebounds. I look forward to seeing further improvement over the rest of the season.

On Tuesday the 22nd November, the BMGS Stars completed their coaching session on how to ‘box out’ effectively. Because there were so many BMGS players, we had to play against each other with four players on each team. With a couple of quick goals scored by the Blue team, the Red team had their work cut out to try and get the win. They all put in a huge effort and it was great to see their shooting accuracy improve. The Blue team won.
