Pathways & Careers Report

Hayley Cook

As 2025 draws to a close, the Woodmans Hill Secondary College Pathways Office would like to thank our students, families, staff, and community partners for another productive and inspiring year. Our students have embraced every opportunity to explore future careers, develop new skills, and make informed decisions about their educational pathways.

Work Experience Highlights

One of the year’s standout achievements was the successful completion of Work Experience for our Year 10 students. Across a wide range of industries—including trades, health, hospitality, education, and business—students gained real-world insight into the world of work. Employers consistently praised our students for their enthusiasm, professionalism and willingness to learn. Work Experience continues to be a cornerstone of our pathways planning, helping students clarify interests and build confidence.

Careers Expos and Pathway Exploration

Students across multiple year levels participated in a variety of careers expos, including the Ballarat Careers Expo and Trade and Tech Fit Expo, targeted to female and gender diverse students. These experiences gave students the chance to talk directly with Employers, Training providers, Universities, and TAFE's. Students explored Apprenticeship options, University pathways and emerging industries —helping them make informed choices about future study and employment.

VET Programs

Our VET (Vocational Education and Training) students continued to excel this year. From our internal VET Program offerings in Sport & Recreation, Community Services & IT as well as a wide range of external VET programs, offered through the Highlands LLEN, such as Automotive, Building & Construction, Hospitality, and Hair & Beauty, students gained industry-recognised skills while working toward their senior certificates. Many students completed major projects, practical assessments, or workplace-based tasks that strengthened their employability and gave them a taste of their chosen field.

Well done to all our VET students for their dedication in 2025.

We look forward to the addition of our internal VET Small Business Innovation program being offered in 2026, we are excited to see our VCE VM students embrace this new learning opportunity.

Course Confirmation and Senior Pathways

The Course Confirmation process was another major milestone, ensuring every student is placed in the right subjects and programs for 2026. Through individual counselling, parent conversations, and subject selection support, students were able to map out tailored pathways—whether that’s VCE, VCE Vocational Major, VET, School-Based Apprenticeships, or blended options. We are proud of the thoughtful decisions students have made about their senior studies and future goals.

Looking Ahead

In 2026, the Pathways Office will continue to expand opportunities for students, including:

  • Additional Work Experience and structured workplace learning placements

  • More VET options delivered both onsite and through external providers

  • Further engagement with local industry and training organisations

  • Enhanced career exploration programs for Years 7–12

Thank you to our students for your curiosity, energy, and commitment to exploring Pathway opportunities.

We wish everyone in the Woodmans Hill Secondary College community a safe, happy, and relaxing break.

We look forward to another year of growth, achievement, and opportunity in 2026.
