Humanities Department Report

James Parish

What an amazing year we've had in the Humanities space. I would like to thank the Humanities teaching team for a great year of teaching the things we love with passion and enthusiasm. I also want to thank and congratulate all our amazing students for the hard work they have put in. Seeing our Year 12's take on their exams with tenacity and confidence is a testament to their commitment to learning over their time at Woodmans Hill Secondary College, and the support teachers, peers and support staff have provided to them. I look forward to asking some of them to come in next year and share their wisdom with those preparing to undertake a similar journey.

At the same time, the teaching and learning goes on, and we are busy preparing a range of end of year activities and inquiries for our Year 7 – 9 cohort.

On Tuesday18th of November, the Year 9 French elective group headed into the Ballarat CBD for an excursion to consolidate their learning in our unit on giving and following directions in French. The students did a fantastic job of navigating around town and completed various challenges at different stops along the way relating to the French language, French-speaking cultures and the local environment, before enjoying a croissant as a reward for their efforts. The group upheld all our school values and interacted kindly and respectfully with all members of the public we came across. Bravo et merci beaucoup!

We look forward to another year where the Humanities space is growing, particularly in the VCE VM space with the 2026 addition of Small Business, as well as Industry and Enterprise programs to build confidence in their transition to the workplace.

Our Step Up Program has introduced a new batch of leaders into the Humanities space, good luck with the holiday homework and we look forward to learning with you more next year.

On behalf of the Humanities team, I hope everyone has a safe and restful holiday break!
