Visual Arts

As the academic year comes to a close so much has been achieved in the creative and language spaces. This included the exciting news of the nominations for ENCORE (Music) and OnSTAGE (Drama), with Ella Saxon receiving a nomination for ENCORE (performance) and selection in OnSTAGE (performance). Also nominated for ENCORE were Peter Sobolewski (Composition) and OnSTAGE, Ed Fitzgerald (stage design).

An amazing achievement and true recognition of the work of the students and the staff. We are also excited about our next musical production of PopStars - A 90’s Musical. It is a fun musical involving lots of dance and singing, including some absolute ’90s classics. The students are very excited about this production.

Classrooms have been very busy. Here is a snapshot of the learning from this term.

Year 7 Visual Arts students explored a range of artmaking activities, and following on from their exploration of Andy Warhol and his Endangered Species exhibition, students have feverishly worked on their stop motion short films. Students started by developing a character and then, in collaboration, created a storyboard and filmed using the stop motion technique. This was both a challenging and rewarding learning experience.

Year 8 Visual Artists have compiled and reflected on their self-portraits, where they explored themselves and their interests in the world. There were some wonderful paintings produced, and the students were very focused on refining their painting practice. Year 8 are currently finishing the lino printing process. The level of care and detail in their prints has been fantastic to see, with some students moving on to produce more artworks and apply a range of techniques pre- and post-print.

Year 10 Visual Art students worked on individual bodies of work throughout the term. Many students were inspired by fashion icons, magazine covers and trends through time. Other students painted beautiful semi floral abstracts and surrealist artworks. Students enjoyed the freedom to explore their chosen subjects, plan and create their  artworks. Well done Year 10.

Year 11 Visual Arts students have begun their HSC journey. This term, they focused on developing substantive ideas and concepts based on research and experimentation. Students have explored artists who will aid the development of their work.

Year 11 Photography and Digital Media have explored photography techniques and the "behind-the-scenes" of food photography, including how food is staged for advertising and the tips used to make food look appealing. Students have also had experience in the kitchen, creating, cooking and applying a range of techniques, such as lighting and background considerations. The students have produced a range of successful compositions this term.
