Grade 1 & 2
Term 4 - Week 9
Welcome to Week 9. The year is quickly coming to an end, so we have some tired but very excited children preparing for Christmas and their holidays.
During Religion, we have been looking at Luke’s story of Christmas, 'Luke 2:8-20'. This story focuses on the angels appearing before the shepherds, telling them of the good news that our saviour, Jesus, had been born. They, then, went to see this special child themselves. Did you know that some parts of the story celebrated at Christmas time are in the Bible, and some have been created by people over the past 2000 years? For example, there is no mention of animals in either Bible story. However, more than 800 years ago, a man called St Francis of Assisi thought it would be nice for children to include them, so now we have animals in most nativity (birth of Jesus) scenes.

During Inquiry, we have been looking at the Indigenous connection to place. We read the Bangarang Dreamtime Story that explains how the Murray River was created and we read the Tnorala Story. The students have enjoyed looking at maps and reflecting on their holidays and special places.
During Literacy, we have been learning about Procedural Text, following instructions of how to make or do something. This was a fun time for the children and a great learning experience. Last week we shared the procedural text of ‘How to Make Fairy Bread’. Then we followed the instructions and made Fairy bread. We did have some funny instructions.

As our school year is quickly coming to an end, we would like to thank you all for a wonderful year and wish you all a joyous and blessed Christmas, a happy and healthy New Year and restful and safe holidays.
Best wishes to you all from Heather, Claire, Anne, Georgia and Mollie.
