STEM

I feel a bit like a broken record when I start each newsletter piece with the same line - where has the time gone?!?!? This year has absolutely flown by in the blink of an eye and the learning and achievements we have accomplished make me so proud.
A couple of weeks ago we were fortunate enough to have an incursion for the Yr 4/5/6s all about STEM. They were lucky enough to have a scientist come in to speak about the opportunities in STEM as a career and they then had some fun with various STEM activities. Thanks to Celeste, Wiley and Jaclyn for their support!
The past few weeks have been busy with our digital technologies unit - our Preps and 1s have shown such resilience and patience while using Chromebooks - it's not for the faint hearted at this age! They have been typing and using the trackpad like seasoned professionals to animate sprites and change backgrounds in Scratch Jr.
The 2/3s have been introduced to Scratch after using Scratch Jr and are now pros at it! They have just moved on to use our micro: bits this week, using a different coding system to light up LEDS and make music.
The 4/5/6s have been using the micro: bits to program our new robots to dance in a figure of eight pattern and using the lights to create indicators. I'm seriously impressed with all of their coding skills and debugging knowledge!
As always, it's been a fabulous year of STEM and watching the students grow and learn. Thank you to the support of our school community, who have stepped up and helped with supplies when needed! It really is most appreciated.
