Grade 5 Report

Geography

This term, our Grade 5 children have been learning about how natural disasters connect to Australia’s landscape and the lives of the people who live here. Through poetry, class discussions, and group activities, students explored how events like bushfires and floods can change both the environment and local communities.

We began by looking at a poem that helped students think deeply about how the environment shapes our experiences and how natural disasters can leave a lasting mark on both places and people.

To bring all their learning together, students worked in groups on a mini research project. Each group chose a recent bushfire and a flood to study. They explored what caused each event, how it affected the land, and how individuals and communities were impacted. The students have shown great curiosity and teamwork throughout this project.

Next, we are moving on to a new topic where we are learning about different biomes around the world. Children are already researching environments such as deserts, rainforests, and grasslands, discovering what makes each biome unique. We look forward to sharing their work with our parent community in the coming weeks!
