SAKG News

Our final menu rotation for the year is a very special compilation of recipes and I'd like to give a big thank you to the Vreeland family for providing the recipes and guidance for our Authentic Persian Menu. The dishes we are preparing showcase our garden produce, especially herbs, broadbeans, and peas and of course our hard working chickens who are pumping eggs out for us.
The recipes can mostly be found with video assistance and also some tips on the www.cookingwithayeh.com website. Kate has provided links to the recipes below.
Students are making two wonderful salads - a potato salad with Persian flavours, as well as a Shirazi salad which has a lovely refreshing taste and the bright fresh colours of the red onion, herbs, tomato and cucumber look lovely and appealing on a plate. We are serving Barberi bread, a flatbread with nigella and sesame seeds and a cucumber and mint dip. Our main dishes are a saffron and broadbean rice, a persian style herb frittata and we are finishing off with some simple Persian rice cookies (similar to shortbread) served with Persian icecream. The Persian icecream contains pistachios, saffron, rose petals and has a delightfully floral scent and taste.
There are a couple of Middle Eastern/Indian grocers in Ballarat now, and they can help you with the ingredients. Otherwise feel free to mix and match and make fusion Persian inspired dishes instead. So long as they are colourful, flavoursome and delicious and bring people together at the table they will be a success.
Happy holidays everyone and thank you for supporting our Kitchen Garden program.
Just a couple of reminders to conclude. Firstly, with regards to our Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Christmas Raffle, please get behind it and sell the last of your tickets. There are so many great prizes to be won and you need to be in it to win it. If we could have all money and any remaining tickets returned to the office by this Friday (12th December) so they are available for the draw which will take place at our final school assembly on Wednesday 17th December, after our school picnic.

Next, our SAKG Stall will still be running this Tuesday and Thursday in the grade 3/4 and P-2 playground area at the end of the school day. Seed packets and a range of plants will be for sale for $2. Please come and check it out.
And lastly our SAKG news we want to do a call out to any families who are keen to care for our animals over the holidays. We have 3 lots of guinea pigs to be billeted out. They are very easy and guaranteed to return the favour with endless pleasure and joy. If you are interested in caring for any of our guinea pigs please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs O’Brien, Jodie, Kate or see one of the girls in the office.
