Opening of the Year Whole School Mass
On Tuesday morning we celebrated our first whole-school Mass for the year—a truly joyous occasion. In the Gospel, we heard the account of Jesus calling His first four disciples to follow Him.
Following this, Fr Joseph delivered a particularly engaging homily on what it truly means to be a follower of Jesus. He reminded us that discipleship is much more than words, and that it does not mean being Jesus’ slave. Rather, it means being willing to take up and carry a cross in Jesus’ name—not literally, but through our actions. To be a true friend and follower of Jesus means being prepared to do difficult things for the sake of others.
Fr Joseph invited us all to reflect on situations in which we choose to do the right thing, such as showing kindness to someone who has previously been unkind to us. Our students offered some beautiful responses, and Fr Joseph then challenged them to justify their thinking. With answers such as “two wrongs don’t make a right” and “because humans should care for each other,” our students demonstrated a deep understanding of the message and truly did us proud.
One thing we will continue working on throughout this term is helping the children understand and show reverence and respect while in the Church. We are guiding them to recognise that the Church is God’s house — a special and sacred place where we pray, listen, and reflect.
Parents can support us in this important endeavor by reinforcing these expectations at home and gently reminding children of appropriate behaviour when visiting the Church. This includes using quiet voices, walking calmly, listening attentively, and showing respect to the altar, sacred objects, and to one another. When children receive consistent guidance both at school and at home, they are better able to develop a meaningful sense of respect and reverence in God’s house. We thank you for your support with this.
Sacrament of Baptism for Older Children
In order for students to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and Confirmation whilst at St Patrick's, they must first have received the Sacrament of Baptism. Students in year 3 will prepare to make their First Holy Communion in Term 2. Students in year 6 will prepare to make their Confirmation in Term 3 and students in year 2 will prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation in Term 4.
If your child has not been baptised but you wish for them to receive one of these Sacraments whilst at school, you are able to make arrangements for them to prepare within our Parish Baptism classes. These are on offer for children 7 years and older. Classes commence on Sunday the 15th of February. For registration forms or more information please contact Lisa on 0402480224 or Joanne at the Parish Office
