Year 10, 11 & 12

Assistant Principal's Report

Welcome back to the new school year. As the Assistant Principal – Senior Years, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all our Year 10–12 students and their families. Whether your child is continuing their senior journey or beginning an important new chapter, I am very much looking forward to working in partnership with you throughout the year ahead.

The senior years are an exciting and significant time. They bring opportunities for growth, independence, and achievement, but they can also present challenges as students balance academic expectations, wellbeing, and future planning. Our focus is to ensure every student feels supported, connected, and clear about what success looks like for them.

High expectations remain a cornerstone of our Senior Years program. Regular attendance, punctuality, respectful behaviour, and a commitment to learning are essential foundations for success. We encourage students to take responsibility for their learning, seek help early when challenges arise, and make the most of the support available to them. Families play a vital role in reinforcing these expectations, and we value your ongoing partnership.

We recognise that the year ahead may feel overwhelming at times. Assessment demands, workload management, and future pathway decisions can be challenging for students and families alike. Please be assured that our Senior Years team is here to support students academically, socially, and emotionally. Open communication is encouraged, and we welcome conversations that help us work together in the best interests of our students.

A highlight of our return to school was the Year 12 boat races, which brought energy, excitement, and a strong sense of community to the start of the year. It was wonderful to see our senior students embracing the tradition with enthusiasm, teamwork, and good spirit, setting a positive tone for their final year. Events like this play an important role in building connection, school pride, and lasting memories as our Year 12s begin their senior journey.

As part of our commitment to keeping families informed and engaged, we will be holding an upcoming VCE and VM Parent Information Session. This session will provide important information about course requirements, assessment expectations, attendance, pathways, and key dates across the year. It will also be an opportunity to ask questions and better understand how we can support your child through their senior studies. We strongly encourage all families to attend and hope to see you there.

We wish Archie Showler 11A all the very best as he travels to Sydney this week to compete in the Australian team selection event for the World Junior Taekwondo Championships, to be held later this year. This is an outstanding achievement and a testament to Archie’s dedication, discipline and hard work. We are incredibly proud of him and wish him every success as he competes for selection on the national stage.

The senior years are not just about academic outcomes; they are about preparing young people for life beyond school. With strong routines, clear expectations, and a shared commitment to growth, we are confident this will be a positive and successful year for our students. It's always important to balance school with social activities, so I hope students are as excited as I am about the upcoming Swimming Carnival.

I also encourage students to have some fun, whether that be joining a sports team this year, signing up for the school musical, or getting involved in one of our many school clubs. It is always a great way to build friendships, stay connected to the school community, and create positive balance alongside the academic demands of the senior years. Thank you for your continued support.

I look forward to a productive year working together.

Rebecca Sandlant -  Assistant Principal Years 10 - 12

Year Level Leader's Report - Year 10

A huge welcome to all the families of our new Year 10 students as they start their first year as seniors.

It is a big year for the students as they will be making choices about VCE/VM and thinking about future pathways after school and what is required to get there, so it has been fantastic to see so many of the students start the year focused and striving to achieve their best.

In WYNtime, students will be setting goals each week and then reflecting on those goals in order to help them achieve their best, as well as spending time learning study skills, so it is really important students are on time and using that time well.

It was fantastic to see so many students putting their hand up to be the Year 10 representative on the School Representative Council. The students spoke so well in front of their peers and I thank all of the students who nominated and put so much work into their presentations.

We will be announcing the three successful School Representative Council candidates soon along with the House captains. Other students have already stepped up and achieved leadership roles with the Year 10s electing class captains. Those students will be recognised and celebrated in an upcoming assembly.

With swimming carnivals and athletics carnivals just around the corner there will be more opportunities to celebrate the successes of our Year 10 students.

It has also been great to see so many students have already arranged their work experience place and completed all the paperwork. If not yet done, students should aim to do that as soon as possible. Further information will be provided on work experience.

From all of the Year 10 team, we look forward to an amazing year.

Year Level Leader's Report - Year 11

Wyndham Central College and the Year 11 Team extend a warm welcome to all students and families as we begin the 2026 school year. We are excited to support our students as they move into this important stage of their secondary education and start shaping their senior pathways.

The opening weeks of the year have been extremely positive. Students have settled in well, approached their classes with maturity, and shown a strong willingness to engage with both academic and co-curricular opportunities. Our Setting up for Success activities provided valuable time for students to reconnect with friends, build new relationships with teachers, and set clear goals for their VCE or (VCE)VM studies. The focus on organisation, attendance, and effective study habits has set a strong foundation for the year ahead.

Leadership opportunities continue to be an important part of student voice at Wyndham Central College. Late last year and again at the start of this term, students expressed interest in a range of roles including SRC Representative, Class Captain, and House Captain. These positions allow students to contribute positively to the College community while developing confidence and responsibility. Announcements regarding successful applicants will be shared with students and families shortly.

Tutor teachers remain a key support for every Year 11 student. They are the first point of contact for families regarding attendance, wellbeing, learning progress, or any questions that may arise throughout the year. The 2026 Year 11 Tutor Team is committed to working closely with students and families to ensure each learner feels supported and connected to the College.

We encourage families to maintain regular communication with their child’s tutor teacher.  Please reach out to your to discuss concerns, share achievements, or celebrate milestones. A strong partnership between home and school plays a vital role in student success, and we look forward to working together throughout 2026.

Year Level Leader's Report - Year 12

Wyndham Central College and the Year 12 Team warmly welcome all students and families to the 2026 school year.

We are pleased to share that students have settled in well during their first week, forming connections with their new classmates, tutor teachers, and subject teachers. The Setting Up for Success days were truly a success, filled with enthusiasm, teamwork, and shared smiles. A special mention goes to the students who participated in the Tutor Challenge, where they designed boats using various materials and competed in a relay race on the basketball courts. Their creativity and teamwork not only made for an exciting competition but also entertained and inspired our new Year 7 cohort.
