SUCCESS STORIES

TOM SIDHU
Updating our story about Tom’s Rugby Union Tour of Europe in October, we are pleased to offer some further news.
After flying into Rome, Tom and his U17 team played the U18 Italian National team but were not successful in that match. They then played the Unione Cavalieri U18 team, the best team in Italy and won.
The team then went on to Lisbon to play in the Portugal Rugby Youth Festival. After two gruelling days of competition against teams from around the world, they finished third.
Before Tom departed for Europe, he was called up to the Victorian State U16 Team. He played in their pre-competition warm-up match in Albury against the Brumbies. In the dying minutes of the game, Tom charged down the ball, allowing his team to score the winning try. This was the first time Victoria had beaten the ACT Brumbies.
Tom has shown remarkable on field skill and sportsmanship to not only achieve selection but to net such high results. We are very proud of him.
AYMAN SHAMEEM
Ayman Shameem of Year 9 recently attended the First Lego League State Championship with impressive results.
The FLL is an international competition for children aged 9–16, designed to inspire interest in STEM through hands-on robotics challenges.
Ayman’s team performed strongly in both the Robot Runs and in their Oral Presentation, which included their innovation project. The competition was divided into two main components - a 2 minute 30 second robot challenge to complete 13 missions, and a presentation segment where teams explained their robotic strategies and showcased their innovation project aligned with this year’s theme, “Unearthed” (focused on archaeology).
Ayman’s team, STEM Incubators – Seniors, impressed the judges with their professionalism, teamwork, and presentation skills. Competing against around 20 other teams, including coding clubs and both public and private school STEM teams, they stood out among the best.
Out of all participating teams, only four were selected to advance to the Nationals, and we are proud to share that Ayman’s team has been chosen to represent Victoria at the First Lego League National Championship, South, which will be held at Methodist Ladies’ College on Saturday 6 December 2025.
This year, about 50 teams from Victoria, Tasmania, and South Australia will compete at the Nationals. Ayman and his team now have three to four weeks of preparation ahead as they get ready to compete at this level against the best in the country.
We congratulate Ayman and wish him all the best as he and the team take on this exciting new challenge.
