Yr 9 Grampians Camp

Before the end of Term 3 the Year 9 students ventured to Halls Gap with their hiking gear to conquer the mountains. The students tested their resilience with some of them carrying near 30kg packs over 10km treks. The students battled rain and wind and one tent pole breaking in the night but they still maintained a positive attitude across all the days.

On the first day students walked 10km in total walking to the pinnacle of Halls Gap from our drop off point then down to our camp ground at Stoney Creek. Luckily we had a shelter at this camp ground which allowed us to cook inside and play some card games.

On the second day we travelled 13km back up the mountain seeing some wildlife along the way with a wombat gracing our presence on our first leg, as we reach the top we where met with a spectacular view, but, we were only able to appreciate this for a short while as we were met with rain and winds which meant we couldn't see all that far. As we made our way down the mountain and toward our next campsite we were able to see some of the damage caused by the recent fires as we walked through what was once a heavily wooded area. At our next campsite we were able to have a fire which was thoroughly enjoyed by all after the days events. Some students (the crazy ones!) had a dip in the almost ice cold water of the creek not too far from our site. We were then met by some more wombats at our campsite!

On our final day we made a visit to the Halls Gap Zoo where we had a guided tour and learnt a whole heap about a number of animals. We fed monkeys of all kinds, lemurs, deer and even an emu! (Who was a bit aggressive with his food). The Rhinos, Dingoes, Camel, Giraffes, Cheetahs and Birds were a big hit amongst the group. Once we finished our tour we began our trip back to Charlton, with a quick stop at KFC on the way, with a few heavy eyelids on the bus on the way home.

Thank you to all the students who were amazing the whole trip, thank you to Claudia for helping with the Hiking and thank you to Mr Kemp for driving the bus.

Work Experience 2026 - Wheels on A79

Over the school holidays, our Year 9 students organised and cooked a BBQ breakfast fundraiser at the Wheels on A79 Show n Shine event at Charlton Park. They took responsibility for setting up, preparing meals, and serving attendees throughout the morning, showing great teamwork and initiative.

Funds raised will support their 2026 Work Experience Program, helping with travel, accommodation and meal costs. A big thank you to Namoi Fitzpatrick for coordinating the event.
