What’s Happening in Year 5 in Week 9
Friday the 12th of September, Year 5 hopped on a bus headed for the city to attend the Monopoly Dreams excursion in Melbourne Central, which was a great time for all. Students were able to engage with the entire year level when competing in games and activities that introduced/reinforced some of the key learnings that we have been working on in our Geography unit. Everyone represented our school with pride, something that we should be proud of.
Students will also continue their leadership workshops with the Year 1s and will engage with other year levels as well.
We hope everyone has a happy and safe school holidays.
This week, the Year 5 students will be learning:

This has been completed with a focus on Fluency, with grammar lessons also associated with this. We will continue the Word Origins spelling lessons. The students are enjoying finding out the meaning of new morphemes each week.

We will be continuing with Fractions to reinforce the key areas for the students, along with introducing new focus areas. We will also be completing some work on Probability, a topic that involves some fun and engaging games for the students.
Knowledge Unit
Geography is the focus for this term’s Knowledge Unit. This week the students will primarily be focusing on their projects, which involves the design of a house that can withstand a particular natural disaster. What’s Happening in Year 6 in Week 9
Over the past fortnight, our Year 6 students have been celebrating the incredible success of their much-anticipated musical, Aladdin Jr. After weeks of hard work and dedication, they shone on stage and have been proudly recovering from their performances. They were delighted to receive heartfelt fan mail from their BPS peers, acknowledging their talent and effort. This special time has also given them the chance to reconnect, reflect and share memorable moments with their fellow Year 6 classmates.
This week, the Year 6 students will be learning:
Wellbeing
In the final week of Term 3, our Year 6 students will begin important discussions around consent and personal image as part of their Wellbeing program. These conversations will help prepare them for the upcoming ElephantEd sessions in Week 1 of Term 4.
Literacy
In the final week of Term 3, our Year 6 students will continue exploring the structure of narratives, building their understanding of how to craft engaging stories. They will also deepen their knowledge of figurative language and literary devices such as metaphors, similes, and personification. Alongside this, students will continue reading The Grandest Bookshop in the World, using it to inspire and enrich their own writing.
Maths
In the final week of Term 3, our Year 6 students will be delving into the concept of angles, building their understanding through hands-on activities and discussions. They will also consolidate their numeracy skills by engaging in a range of fun and challenging Maths games.
Knowledge Unit
In Environmental Science, as part of their Knowledge Unit Science, Year 6 students will be investigating how different animals and plants have adapted to live in extreme weather conditions. They will explore fascinating survival strategies and consider how these adaptations help living things thrive in challenging environments.
Homework
Over the school holidays, Year 6 students are encouraged to keep their minds active by reading a variety of books and completing activities on Mathletics. They could also write a holiday journal to practise their writing skills and reflect on their experiences.
