Year 4
What’s Happening in Year 4 in Week 9
What an incredible term! The school has participated in several whole school events that include the Arts Day, Book Week, along with the upcoming Footy Day. Other special events have included House Athletics Day, visiting Tasks Works, as well as the Digital Technology workshop. The Year 6 production was also a spectacular success so all in all, it has been extremely busy and fun term.
The Year 4 teachers would like to thank the parents and carers for their participation throughout the term as many of the events we organise could not happen without their support.
This week, the Year 4 students will be learning:
Wellbeing
Students will be focusing on how to be a team member who contributes respectfully and kindly in a group situation. They will be learning how to cooperate with their peers whilst learning that it is important to responsibly complete tasks allocated to you.
Literacy
Our spelling program, Word Origins, will continue to be implemented throughout the second semester. Writing sessions will be focusing on information texts to support our subject area of science in Term 3. Our students will be publishing their own version of a ‘Jess McGeachin inspired’ piece of writing that will include their own illustrations.
Maths
The Year 4 students will be building on their knowledge of data collection and analysis. They will be introduced to ‘Excel’ and shown how to graph data using this program. All areas of Maths that were studied throughout the first semester will also be frequently reviewed to facilitate deeper understanding of concepts.
Knowledge Unit
Our Knowledge Unit in Term 3 is ‘Science’. Students will be learning about simple physics such as forces as well as studying the impact of food chains in the living world.
Homework
The Year 4 students are expected to read every night and record their progress in their personal diaries. It is the responsibility of the student to bring their diary to school every day and take it home each night to log their reading. Classroom teachers will be checking and signing these diaries regularly to monitor student reading habits. The student diary will also be used to highlight important dates and reminders.
