Principals Report

Dear WSPS families,

As we move towards the end of Term 3, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what has been a really special few weeks at our school. It’s been a busy term filled with wonderful learning, memorable events, and plenty of opportunities for our students to shine both inside and outside the classroom.

Hats

A reminder: our Sunsmart Policy requires hats till the 1st May and then from 1st September. While young students may not yet understand the long-term risks, we know that consistent hat-wearing is one of the simplest and best ways to prevent future skin damage. Please help your child build this important habit by ensuring they have their hat every day. We want to make sun safety second nature for all students.

Parent Opinion Survey Reminder

Our school is conducting the annualParent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey and is seeking your feedback. The survey, offered by the Department of Education, is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will remain open online until Friday 19 September 2025.

Your opinions are important to us and will contribute to identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies. 

The department will use the results from the survey for research purposes and to improve outcomes for students. The survey is being conducted online and only takes 20 minutes to complete.  If you require assistance in completing the survey, please reach out to your child’s teacher, or the school if you require assistance in another language.

I am putting out this reminder as only 13% of responses have been received.

Father’s Day Stall

A big thank you to all the wonderful parents who helped out at our Fathers/Special persons day stall last Friday and for the many volunteers who gave up their time to attend the craft working bee in preparation for the stall.  Your time, energy and support made the event run smoothly and gave the children a chance to choose something special for the dads and special persons in their lives. Events like this wouldn’t be possible without you! A sincere thanks to Paul who organised craft working bees and the running of the stall all morning.

Grade 5 Camp: PGL Campaspe Downs

Great kids, great camp and great staff: A recipe for success! Our grade 5s had a wonderful time at their camp  for 3 days last week. The feedback from the students was fabulous and ranged from great activities, great cabins and even great food!

I extend a heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff who accompanied our Grade 5 students to camp. Their care, energy, and commitment made it possible for the children to challenge themselves, build friendships, and create lasting memories. 

Wizard of Oz

What a way to finish the term! The concert, The Wizard of Oz was a truly amazing event and a wonderful experience for our students. It was a joy to see them showcase their talents, hard work, and enthusiasm, and to share their love of music  and dancing with the school community. A massive shout out to Samantha for all her hard work and energy, inspiring our students to be amazing performers. I sincerely thank staff for their dedication supporting the students, the families for their encouragement and attendance, and, of course, the students themselves for their commitment and courage in performing. It was a very special evening that will be remembered by all.

A word from Sam......

Hi all, I wanted to take a moment to say a heartfelt thank you following our whole school concert The Wizard of Oz. I’m incredibly proud of every student who faced their nerves, stepped onto the stage, and shone so brightly. A huge congratulations to my main cast for their outstanding work, my backstage crew who kept everything running seamlessly, and our Performing Arts Captains for their leadership and support. I’m also so grateful for all the lovely feedback I’ve received,  it truly makes the experience even more special!

Introducing Our New School Value: Perseverance

We are excited to share that Perseverance has been introduced as a new school value at Wales Street. Perseverance is about showing determination, resilience, and effort—even when things feel challenging. It reminds us all that growth comes through persistence and that every step forward, no matter how small, matters.

At school, students will be encouraged to practise perseverance in their learning, friendships, and activities. This might look like trying again after a mistake, staying focused on a tricky task, or supporting others to keep going when things get tough. By developing this value, our students will build the confidence to overcome obstacles and continue striving toward their goals.

We look forward to seeing how Perseverance becomes part of our school culture and how our students will demonstrate this important value in their daily lives.
