Kiss and Drop
A reminder to all parents and carers who use the Kiss and Drop zone in Quorn Street to adhere to the following points so that all our students are kept safe in the area.
Please enter via the Earl St side of Quorn St (University end) and move to the furthest available spot to allow other cars to come in behind you. This means turning left only into the area and not making a right hand turn into the zone or accessing the zone from David Avenue (please see attached map).
Before school, students need to be fully dressed so that they exit the car promptly from the left hand passenger side.
Upon exiting the zone drivers are to only make a turn left on to Quorn Street, proceeding to Nelson Road.
Vehicles are not to be left unattended in the area. The Kiss and Drop Zone is not a parking bay. If a student is not waiting in the zone when their parent/carer arrives, parents/carers are asked to do a lap of the block.
If you are collecting your child in Quorn Street and are not using the Kiss and Drop zone, please ensure that you do not park on or over the Children’s Crossing.
All students must cross at the Children’s Crossing and we ask all adults to model this behaviour as well.
Phones and other devices can be a distraction for pedestrians, affecting their ability to cross a road safely. We ask that students, parents and carers do not use their devices whilst crossing the road or in the Kiss and Drop zone.
Drivers are reminded that Quorn Street is a 40 km/h zone with electronic signs either end of the street indicating the hours that this speed limit is enforced.
Quorn Street Parking
There are a variety of parking restrictions in Quorn Street, depending on the time of day. The City of Hobart parking rules exist to improve traffic flow and provide safe access for all motorists and pedestrians, especially our students.
No Stopping Zone
A vehicle must not stop in a No Stopping zone for any reason or any length of time. Passengers must not be picked up or set down in this area. No Stopping zones exist to maintain safety and traffic flow.
There is a No Stopping zone on Quorn Street, on the opposite side of the road to the College, adjacent to the pedestrian crossing, Nelson Road end.
There is to be No Standing in this zone between 8.00am - 9.00am and 2.30pm-3.45pm on school days.
No Parking Zone
A No Parking zone means you may stop briefly to pick up or drop off people or goods, but the driver is not to exit the vehicle.
There is a No Parking zone on Quorn Street, on the same side of the road to the College, heading towards Earl Street.
This No Parking zone is in effect between 8.00am - 9.00am and 2.30pm-3.45pm on school days.
Sun Protection
A reminder to all students and families about our Sun Protection Guidelines.
From the beginning of September until the end of the year, when daily UV Index levels reach 3 and above, sun protection is recommended by the Cancer Council for all skin types.
Students are strongly encouraged to wear the College bucket hat, wide-brimmed hat or College boater which all protect the face, neck and ears.
From the beginning of Term 4, students from ELC to Year 6 must remain in the shade if they are not wearing a sun-safe hat. Secondary students will be strongly encouraged to remain in the shade if they are not wearing a sun-safe hat.
If you have misplaced your hat or grown out of it since it was last used in April, the Uniform Shop is open during term time on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 1.00pm to 5.00pm. Orders can also be placed via the Qkr app and collected from Student Services.
Students are encouraged to bring to school and apply their own sunscreen. The use of broad-spectrum, water-resistant SPF 30 or higher sunscreen is encouraged whenever the UV index is predicted to be above 3.
