Year 3 Como House

Stepping Back in Time at Como House

Last week, Year 3’s stepped back in time to Como House to experience what it was like to live over 150 years ago.

We did so many things like a tour of the house, a scavenger hunt, servant training and my personal favourite, the old games. There were so many to choose from. One of them was ‘What’s the time Mr Wolf’. Everyone loved croquet. It was a bat and a ball, and you hit the ball under the eight bridge things. It was pretty hard, but I still did it.

My favourite part was the servant training. We learnt the different bell sounds that the rich people rang to let the servants know they needed something. The bedroom bell went ‘ding, ding’ and the “I’m hungry” bell went ‘Dang bang!’

I liked going inside Como House. We had to do the Como hand hold to make sure we didn’t touch anything. We walked around the house and discovered different rooms. We discovered the ball room, dining room, Fred’s room and mum and dad’s room.

My favourite part of the Como House tour was that ladies went first every time we entered a room. I liked the ball room, where we learnt a dance to make more rich friends. I also liked it when we learnt you need to keep the stove on for a week.

The most amazing part about the excursion was the tour of the interesting house. It was so cool learning about how people used to live back in the 1870’s. In the house was all the furniture they lived with. It was a great day, and I loved learning about everything.
