What a wonderful start to Term 4 it has been in Prep!

During Wellbeing Week, we took part in daily walks, enjoying time outdoors and learning how to be present in nature. These moments reminded us of the importance of being balanced, our Learner Profile focus for the week. The children reflected on how looking after our bodies, minds and hearts helps us feel our best and learn well together.

We also launched our new Unit of Inquiry – Sharing the Planet. Our Central Idea is “Humans and nature live in balance.” The children have already begun exploring what this means by observing the natural world around them and thinking about how we can take care of living things.

In Mathematics, we have been exploring addition through the game “Roll the Dice.” The children rolled dice to create their own number stories and used counters, drawings and number lines to show their thinking. Through play, they discovered that numbers can be combined in different ways to make the same total and began noticing patterns when adding small numbers. This hands-on activity has helped build confidence and a strong understanding of how addition works.

In Writers Workshop, we have begun our new unit “Where Writers Get Their Ideas.” Students are discovering that writers can find inspiration in their lives, memories and the world around them. It’s been wonderful to see the children excitedly jotting down their ideas and beginning to turn them into stories.

In Readers Workshop, we have been developing our comprehension skills through Reader’s Theatre. This week, we had so much fun reading and acting out The Smartest Giant in Town by Julia Donaldson. The children worked beautifully together to bring the story to life, using expression, teamwork and a love of reading.

We have also been excitedly practising for our school musical! The children are learning their song, actions, and stage directions, and are showing such enthusiasm and confidence as they prepare to perform. It’s been wonderful to see their personalities shine on stage.

It’s been a joyful and busy start to the term, full of curiosity, creativity and connection with the world around us.
