Principal's Message

Brock Wilson

What a fantastic start the students have all made here at Roxburgh Homestead in Term 3. I’ve seen so many smiling faces and fantastic learning happening in our classrooms. Perhaps the biggest smiles came from our Foundation students who recently celebrated their 100th day of school!

Attendance:

One thing you’ll be hearing more about in the coming weeks is an increased focus on attendance at our school. There is such a strong relationship between high attendance and student achievement and wellbeing, so we want to make sure our students are at school as often as they can possibly be. Though we all get sick sometimes (little kids especially so!), we need to work together to build a culture of resilience in the children, where they can push through minor concerns and still access their education. Sadly, missing school can quickly become normalised, and this often leads to more missed school and students falling behind in their learning. Please help support this message by reminding your children how important being at school is each day and that we only miss school when we are too sick to attend.

Positive Chronicles:

Just a reminder that you may receive additional notifications from the school regarding positive behaviour your child is displaying. The purpose of these notifications is not only to let you know how your child is shining, but also to encourage a discussion at home between the child and the parent that reaffirms the positive behaviour. As a school, we are working hard to ensure you do not only hear from us when things ‘go wrong’ because we know how important positive reinforcement is for our students. When you receive this notification, you can help support us by discussing it further with your child and encouraging them to continue making positive choices in their learning. Students thrive when parents and the school are both working towards the same goals, and we all want to see your children be the best versions of themselves each day.

Community Events:

It was wonderful to have so many parents of our Foundation students join us for the 100-Day Celebration earlier this week. Moving forward, I am looking to create more opportunities to invite families into the school to connect with each other and build a stronger sense of community between our families, staff, and children. In fact, I’ll be sending out some correspondence via Compass soon looking for some expressions of interest for any parents who would like to join a sub-committee for organising community events. Particularly exciting is the return of our ‘Success Day’ event coming at the end of the year, which we will be organising later this term!  Keep an eye out if this sounds like something you’d like to be involved in – I’d love to have our families voice to help us organise a fantastic event to bring everyone together at the end of the year. For our fathers out there, following on from the success of our Mother’s Day Breakfast (where pancakes were in high demand!), we are cooking up something special for you all for Father’s Day later this term as well – watch this space!

That’s all from me for another newsletter – wishing you and your family a lovely weekend ahead. My daughters are keen to get to the zoo after hearing about the Foundation excursion this week – hopefully, the weather cooperates!

Kind Regards,
