As we approach the end of the semester, it is timely to reflect on our focus: Strengthening Community through Commitment, Consistency, and Connection. This theme has been evident in the achievements and experiences of the past two terms. While there have been challenges, they have also brought about growth and resilience, helping to strengthen our Junior School community.

Throughout the term, students have engaged in a variety of experiences that have been highlights of the semester. One standout event was the Encore performance, where every Junior School student had the opportunity to shine on stage before a large audience. In the lead-up to the event, and during the performance itself, many of our Learning Dispositions were clearly evident, particularly Collaboration, Risk-Taking, Resilience, and Excellence. It was a joy to see students singing, dancing, and performing as a team to create a routine that was both enjoyed and celebrated.

This semester also welcomed parents into the Junior School to share in student achievements. Our Celebration of Learning provided students with a platform to articulate their learning goals, reflect on their growth, and discuss the challenges of their learning. This event truly highlighted the strength of our community, and how being committed and connected supports the development of every student.

In addition, a range of learning opportunities, including incursions, excursions, assemblies, concerts, performances, and hands-on experiments, have enriched students’ learning across many curriculum areas and year levels. Exploring learning beyond the classroom and, at times, beyond Overnewton, has been memorable and has had an impact during the semester for many students.

Connections have also been nurtured across the campus, between the Junior School and Year 9 students. As part of their Voluntary Placement hours, Year 9 students have supported various programs in the Junior School, fostering meaningful relationships with younger students and staff. A highlight of this collaboration was the Mini Olympics, held recently on the oval, where Year 9 students guided our younger students through a series of Olympic-themed activities during lunchtime. The joy, support, and sense of fun shared at this event epitomise our goal of developing a connected and caring school culture.

I would like to thank our students, families, and staff for their ongoing support and commitment. Your contributions to our school community are invaluable, and I am deeply grateful. I look forward to continuing this journey together as we begin Term 3, following a well-earned three-week break.
