A Celebration of Clayfield Spirit and the Annual Clayfield College Gift

Interhouse Athletics Championships 2025

The 2025 Interhouse Athletics Championships lit up the University of Queensland Athletics Centre on Wednesday 23 July, in a celebration of speed, strength, and house spirit. With students competing across a full slate of track and field events, it was a day where personal bests met house pride and where every race, jump, and throw told its own story.

From the first starter’s gun to the final relay, the day was a celebration of effort and enthusiasm. On the track, sprint finishes thrilled the spectators, while the endurance of the 1500m runners earned rousing applause. Across the field, students leapt, threw, and cheered each performance driven by a fierce desire to gain more house points.

A special highlight of this year’s championships was the return of the Clayfield College Gift for the girls, alongside the exciting debut of the boys’ race. This crowd-favourite handicapped sprint showcased the top eight fastest times from both girls and boys, with Joshua Mathew storming to victory in the boys’ race off scratch and Demi de Tournouer claiming a thrilling win in the girls’ event confirmed by a dramatic photo finish. The introduction of the boys’ event was a proud and symbolic addition to the program one that we know will become a much-loved tradition in years to come.

As the final relays crossed the finish line and the sun dipped behind the stadium, students and staff alike departed with the shared glow of a day filled with competition, friendship, and house pride.

Age Champions and the coveted Champion House will be announced at our next Sports Assembly.

QGSSSA Winter Fixtures – Uniform and Expectations Reminder

As we head into Round 2 of the QGSSSA Winter Fixtures season, we remind all student-athletes of the expectations surrounding attendance, conduct, and uniform standards.

All students selected for a Club or QGSSSA representative team are required to attend training sessions and scheduled fixtures. If a student is unable to attend for a legitimate reason, it is essential that this is communicated to both the relevant Sport Coordinator and the Clayfield College Sport Department as early as possible.

To excel as a student-athlete at Clayfield College is to uphold the values of our community both on and off the field. Students are expected to take pride in their personal appearance, behaviour, and uniform at all times, as they are representing the College.

Uniform Expectations

Students must arrive and depart in the full Clayfield College sports uniform, appropriate to their sport.

For cooler weather, the following additional uniform items are permitted:

  • Clayfield College Tracksuit
  • Clayfield College ‘NEW’ Green hoodie or multi-sport quarter zip.

Please note:

  • No non-uniform items (including plain jackets, hoodies, senior jerseys, or boarders’ jumpers) are permitted.
  • Footwear: Birkenstocks, Crocs and slides are not to be worn.
  • Jewellery: College jewellery regulations must be followed at all times.

Your cooperation helps maintain the high standard and reputation of Clayfield College Sport.

Andrews Cup Football: Grace, and Game Day Glory

There was something special in the air at Somerfields on Tuesday as our Andrews Cup footballers took to the pitch. With hearts full of determination and team spirit running high, our girls played a round-robin tournament that delivered not just results - but moments to remember.

The Open C team saved their best for last, rising to the occasion in their 7 v 8 playoff. With skilful footwork and unwavering tenacity, they secured a hard-earned win and claimed 7th place overall. Their joy was matched only by their effort.

The Open A team faced a tough and evenly matched opponent. In a game where defensive strength defined the contest, neither side could break through, resulting in a stalemate and a shared 7th place finish. It was a contest of heart and hustle.

Meanwhile, the Open B team proved themselves as fighters finishing the day with a balanced record of three wins and three losses, earning 5th position. Their resilience and refusal to quit were hallmarks of a team with true spirit.

Congratulations to all our Andrews Cup footballers for their grit, growth and good sportsmanship and thank you to the friends and families who lined the sidelines, cheering them on every step of the way.
