Ashburn House Fundraiser

On Friday 25 July, Ashburn House will be raising funds for The Pyjama Foundation. The Pyjama Foundation aims to break the cycle of disadvantage experienced by children in care. Their mission is to create positive relationships for every Australian child in care, empowering them with learning, life skills and confidence. ALL Students and staff from Pre-Prep to Year 12, are encouraged to wear their pyjamas on Friday 25 July to show their support for this vital service. Closed in footwear must be worn – no slippers or crocs.

Campbell House Fundraiser

As we know, Campbell House love their blue, and particularly, their blue jeans! Campbell House is proudly supporting our College Fundraiser for Jeans for Genes Day, next Friday 1 August. All Primary and Secondary students can come to school dressed in appropriate denim attire. Every dollar we donate goes directly to the Children’s Medical Research Institute and helps them find treatments and cures for children’s genetic diseases.

1 in 20 kids face a birth defect or genetic disease and kids just want to be kids, but instead of playing sports with their friends or catching butterflies on a sunny day, kids with genetic diseases are getting liver transplants, taking dozens of medications, or getting their next dose of chemotherapy. It shouldn’t be this way. By donating through Jeans for Genes, you can help the scientists at Children’s Medical Research Institute find cures, so these kids can go back to being kids.

Details:

  • Pre-Prep to Year 12: Free Dress Day (wear your best, appropriate denim outfits)
  • Years 7 to 12: Bake Sale at Lunch in the Middle Years’ Courtyard

100 Days!

This week, we marked a very special milestone in our school year, 100 Days of Prep and 100 Days left of Year 12

To celebrate, our youngest and eldest students came together for a joyful morning tea, sharing fairy bread, watermelon, and plenty of smiles. It was a heartwarming moment of connection across year levels, as Preps and Year 12 students chatted, laughed, and reflected on their journeys so far.

Later in the day, Year 12 students and staff were treated to a celebratory cake at lunchtime, acknowledging the dedication, growth, and resilience shown in their final year at Clayfield College. Only 100 days to go!

These shared celebrations remind us of the unique spirit of our school community, one that fosters belonging and values connection, support, and the joy of learning at every stage.

Congratulations to our Preps and Year 12s on reaching this wonderful milestone!

Term 3 is off to a strong start, with students and staff embracing opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. Our new building has sparked curiosity and exploration, while a range of excursions and incursions are helping bridge the gap between theory and real-world experience.

The EDGE

The opening of The EDGE (Entrepreneurship, Design, Growth and Engineering) offers a practical and promising space for students to explore real-world applications of their learning. Designed with flexible work areas, meeting pods, and digital collaboration tools, EDGE supports entrepreneurial thinking and strategic problem-solving.

Business students are already engaging with the space to conduct business meetings, brainstorm business ideas, plan financial projects, and develop marketing campaigns. The building encourages teamwork and innovation, providing an environment that mirrors modern business workplaces. It is a valuable addition to the school community, and we look forward to collaboration with the STEM department to bring some projects to life!

Year 9 HPE and Year 4 HPE

This week, Mr Woods’ Year 9 HPE students had the opportunity to teach the Year 4R class a selection of First Nations Games as part of their learning and assessment. The Year 4 students were divided into three groups; two groups focused on competitive play while the other group focused on the social principles of physical activity and games.

It was a wonderful connection of learning, and the older students did a fantastic job leading and engaging the younger ones. It was great to see our Secondary students leading our Primary students and see the knowledge and skills come together so seamlessly.

Year 9 Business and Entrepreneurship Excursion at Eat Street Northshore

Written by Lilly Moore (Year 9)

Last Friday, the Year 9 Business and Entrepreneurship classes travelled to Eat Street Northshore, as part of our Market stall and small business unit. Established over 12 years ago and comprising of more than 60 working vendors, our visit to Eat Street was the perfect opportunity to learn some of the secrets to success as a small business.

This immersive experience showed us real life examples of marketing and brand promotion to ensure your business stands out in a crowd, which will be a crucial aspect of our market stalls later this term.

Upon arriving at Eat Street, we had an insightful presentation by the venue manager, Wendy, which gave us an idea of why and how the business operates. After that, we went off in small groups to explore the different sections and stalls in the venue, analysing their popularity and the reasons for their success. We also really enjoyed tasting the foods from many different cuisines and look forward to putting what we learnt to good use this term!

Sport and Recreation at our Strength and Conditioning Gym

Written by Layla Collins and Zoe Goodes-Stibbard

For our Sport and Recreation Incursion, we went to the Strength and Conditioning Gym and worked with Tom Savidge, our coach for the session. At the start, we talked about the sports we play and why it is important to warm up and cool down.

Together as a class, we created and carried out our own warm-up routine. After that, Tom gave us feedback on what we did well and what we could improve. He then explained the proper way to warm up using the RAMP method, which stands for Raise, Activate, Mobilise, and Potentiate.

After explaining each step, he showed us what a proper warm-up looks like by demonstrating each part as he coached us through it, explaining what each movement was for. At the end of the session, we did a cool down together, which included breathing exercises to help relax our bodies and bring our heart rates back down. Overall, it was a really helpful session that taught us how to properly prepare and take care of our bodies before and after physical activity.

Mooting

On 1 August and 2 August, Year 11 students Tara Wright and Sarah McCulloch will participate in the annual Queensland University of Technology (QUT) High School Mooting Competition. The competition, held in the prestigious QUT Mooting Courts, sees Years 11 to 12 Legal Studies students from across Queensland prepare detailed written and oral legal arguments in response to a fictitious criminal case.

The students will present their cases in front of real-world lawyers, barristers and judges, offering a fantastic opportunity for our students to demonstrate their expert legal knowledge and debating prowess.

We wish Tara and Sarah all the best!

Chess Club Sign-Ups Open

Our Chess Club made its first move this week, with a fantastic turnout of enthusiastic students. Open to Secondary students, the club runs on Tuesdays from 3:15pm to 4:45pm and is facilitated by Gardiner Chess.

In their first session, students played a match so Coach Brandon could assess their skill levels before diving into strategy and gameplay. With regular sessions ahead, we’re looking forward to seeing our students take on their first tournament in August!
