NAIDOC Week 2025

NAIDOC Week 2025 was a meaningful and memorable celebration for our entire Clayfield College community, from Pre-Prep through to Year 12. Held during the first week of Term 3, our College came together each day to engage in activities that honoured and shared Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.

The week began on Tuesday with a powerful Smoking Ceremony led by Uncle Alex, accompanied by a didgeridoo performance by Levi. Students also enjoyed face painting and contributed to a collaborative NAIDOC Week artwork, guided by Urshula from Yalari.

On Wednesday, several of our Senior First Nations students read to classes from Prep to Year 2, while others beaded with our youngest learners in Pre-Prep. Lunchtime beading sessions followed, extending the experience across both our Primary and Secondary Schools. That evening, our Boarding House hosted a special NAIDOC Dinner, where First Nations boarders invited guests to join them in celebrating culture and community. The night concluded with a yarning circle and firepit gathering in the backyard, creating space for storytelling and reflection.

Thursday saw a visit from Aunty Annai, who shared delicious Torres Strait Islander cuisine with students during lunch. Finally, our week of celebration concluded on Friday with a moving NAIDOC Assembly. The Assembly featured music, dance, personal reflections, and a guest speaker who shared what NAIDOC means to her and her community.

NAIDOC Week 2025 was an incredible celebration of culture, connection, and community. On behalf of all our First Nations students, thank you to every student and staff member who contributed. We look forward to coming together again in 2026 to continue honouring the spirit of NAIDOC.
