Year 1 Unit

It’s hard to believe we are nearly half way through Term 4 already! Although it’s one of our longest terms so far this year, it certainly feels as if we are hurtling through the weeks.

The Year Ones have been busy gathering materials for their Marvellous Thing creations – we thank you all for supporting the students in collecting ideas and also collecting materials that we can use. There have been discussions about how fascinating it is, that almost everything we use in our lives today, began with someone trying to make life easier and developing a solution for a particular need. Problem solving at its finest!!

Students have loved learning about some of the most important and helpful inventions (such as electricity and toilets!). We have discussed the design process and how it may take persistence and many attempts before success is reached. This might be a topic you could enjoy researching in greater depth with your children at home too.

Last Friday, the Year Ones in conjunction with the whole school, ran laps around the oval to raise awareness for dyslexia. The Year Ones wore an assortment of red (to match many faces at the end!) and ran a combined total of nearly 700 laps!! An amazing effort from all.

On a side note - please remind students that in order to play outside they must have a school hat. These can be purchased via Quikr if hats can’t be located. We have had to ask many Year Ones to play in shaded areas until their hats arrive back at school.
