Religious Dimension
Welcome to Week 7
I hope that you have all had a wonderful weekend. At St. John's we have had a very eventful week with weekend masses, whole school prayer reflections and many other learning opportunities. On the weekend, our Year 5 students were invited to mass and the Gospel that was read to us was from Matthew 25. This part of the Gospel was one of the parables that Jesus used to teach his people and important message.
The Parable of the Bridesmaids was shared and explained by Father Dispin. As the Season of Advent comes closer this year we prepare ourselves in many ways. Father reminded us of the need to be wise and ready for what is to come. When Jesus shared this story with his disciples he was making comparisons between God's people, represented as the bridesmaids and groom as a representation of ‘Our Saviour’. At certain times in our lives, we become rushed and we are always busy which allows little time for clear thinking and planning. During these times, we also become tired just as many of the bridesmaids did in this parable. They fell asleep whilst they were waiting for the groom to arrive and did not have their lamps ready to show him the way to the festival.
In those days, a wedding was a very important feast in the Jewish faith. As lamps were the only form of light in the darkness, they should have been ready with their lamps to show the way. The bridesmaids not only fell asleep but they forgot to have extra oil as well. Only one bridesmaid was prepared and responsible with enough oil to refill. Are you always ready to welcome Jesus into your heart and into your life? I wonder if we can help support each other as Christians, to be ready and prepared, so that we can let our light shine more often and more brightly.
Year 5 Level Mass
Thankyou to all of our Year 5 families who were able to attend mass on Sunday, 12 November. It is always wonderful to see students and their families at mass Thankyou to the students who were able to assist with the readings and preparation of the gifts. A massive thanks to our teachers as well for supporting our students.
Remembrance Day
Last Friday, our students made some beautiful poppies which were added to our wreath during a very special Remembrance Day service. It was a great opportubity for the school community to pay their respects to all those who fought and assisted during WWI and WWII.
Lest We Forget.
Year 3 Reconciliation
Please pray for our Year 3 students who are celebrating the sacrament of Reconciliation on Tuesday evening at 6pm.
The peace of mind which the sacrament of Reconciliation gives to us, is one that gives us the chance to begin again and make a fresh start. It gives us hope, that our wrongdoings have been forgiven and that we are right with God. The sacrament of Reconciliation is also known as Penance and Confession.
St John's presents ' Using Art to Explore Advent and the Nativity'
You are all invited to attend this informative and entertaining session with the very popular Fr Elio. He will give you a fresh perspective on Advent and the Nativity as you explore in more detail the stories behind these important events.
