What's been happening this week?

SHOP SHOP SHOPPING
The Year 1/2 students had so much fun ‘shopping’ in our Mathematics lesson. Each class was selling items and all students received pocket money to spend. There were shop keepers who worked out the change to give back to their customers and the customers were carefully making money amounts with the coins they had in their wallets. It was great to see the students apply their learning to a real life scenario.
BRAIN BREAK DANCE
We had a great brain break having a dance, some special guests joined us!
DINOSAURS AND MORE
The Year 1/2 students had so much fun making links with our Inquiry unit on Dinosaurs and Measurement in Mathematics.
Students designed their own dinosaurs out of toothpicks and icy pole sticks and then measured their dinosaurs. Some students even compared the length of their dinosaurs with the length of their partner’s dinosaurs.
12C started making dioramas for our 'dinosaur and living things' inquiry. We'll be presenting these with our information reports next week.
WATER FILTER EXPERIMENT
The 5/6 students are currently researching reversible and irreversible changes for their Inquiry unit. This week they made predictions and tested different materials such as pebbles, tanbark, tissues, paper towel and cloth as water filters during an experiment to determine what the best method of filtering water is. The students had a lot of fun and enjoyed testing different methods to see which group could make the cleanest water!
KOONUNG SECONDARY COLLEGE
This term, students from Koonung Secondary College have been working with the 5/6 classes on a program that involves combining Mathematics with Physical Education. The BHNPS students really enjoyed their time working with the Koonung students and had a lot of fun finding different ways to learn maths!
FANTASY DRAWING CLUB
This term we began a Fantasy Drawing Club. We have seen a great turn out and the students have been producing some fantastic drawings!
