Wet weather doesn’t slow us down—it invites creativity! Indoors, the children enjoyed two inventive cup games led by a parent volunteer: aiming colour pencils into cups like darts and a fun round of cup bowling. These activities supported motor skill development and coordination, and promote collaboration and social interaction skills.
We also explored a spin-off craft using pre-cut shapes from a hand-strengthening session. Children created flower stems and decorated them with flowers, butterflies, and hearts, practicing fine motor skills like cutting, taping, and gluing. The addition of fragrant coffee beans in the flowerpots added a sensory twist!
A spontaneous moment of curiosity led to a small group gathering to check the weather forecast on the iPad, learning about weather icons together.
And when the rain lets up? We grab our gumboots and splash in puddles!
That’s play-based learning—flexible, creative, and full of discovery, rain or shine!
