SUP Project Parent Session
The Stand Up Project Parent Session
On Wednesday July the 4th, the new SUP leaders co-facilitated a parent session with Dr. Zach and Liam from the Stand Up Project. The new leaders did a fantastic job, preparing with Zach and Liam before the session, planning what they would say and driving the plans for the session.
Before the parent session, the leaders brainstormed things they wanted to focus on and present to the parents - what they felt was the most important message for families at Burwood East Primary. The students talked about their own goals for the parent session, wanting the parents to come away feeling more confident in helping their own children navigate friendship issues and also understanding practical strategies to have those conversations. They also excitedly planned a homework task for the parents to do after the session, to help the parents consolidate their learning from the workshop.

Some of our 2024 SUP leaders shared some advice and support during the planning workshop, which helped ease some of the nerves that students might have felt about presenting to a group of parents. This was also a really organic and authentic example of the leadership aspect of student voice - with peers supporting peers, to allow the 'next cohort' of BEPS leaders to leave their mark on our school community.
The next step for our inspiring SUP leaders is to continue planning the lessons that they will deliver to the Year 2 and 3 students, with support from staff and student mentors!
