Brickworks Mural and Powerplant Workshop

Term 2

Students in Expert Art and our STEM, Visual Arts and Eco Captains were invited to participate to contribute to a 5-metre mural, designed by Melbourne artist Angharad Neal-Williams. Students had the opportunity to paint a section of the artwork, which will be permanently displayed in Brickworks, celebrating the vibrant people who make our community such a special place.

This project was about connectivity, inclusion and creativity, and was a chance to showcase the community’s spirit and diversity.

The artwork will be featured on merchandise and shopping bags, which will be available for purchase by the community with the proceeds from those sales going towards supporting community funding.

In addition to painting, students participated in a Plant Power interactive workshop held in the rooftop garden, where Cultivating Community,  a not-for-profit organisation committed to promoting urban agriculture, food security, and sustainability, taught the students how to grow and prepare food, minimise waste and adopt sustainable practices.

The garden is located on the rooftop at Burwood Brickworks, and serves as a hub for hands-on learning and community engagement. Through their network of community gardens and food education programs across Melbourne, they empower people to connect with nature and adopt sustainable practices. Our students’ mural will be permanently displayed at the entrance of this garden.
