Clever Kids

Kindergarten:

KJ

During the second half of this term, KJ have been very busy learning about bugs using narratives and information texts. We have looked at bugs under a microscope and made bugs out of playdough and with paper. In Science, we learnt about a variety of materials and what things are made of. We were given materials to construct a house for the Three Little Pigs. It had to withstand the huff and puff from the Big Bad Wolf (Mrs Jones with a fan!). Some did not work while other were quite sturdy. During maths time, we were given a number of objects that we had to estimate, then organise the count to find the total. We were able to do this successfully in a variety of ways. KJ have also worked with Mrs Williams, learning to give instructions (code) to the dashbots using Ipads.

We have learnt so much during the first half of the year. We can’t wait for 100 days of Kindergarten and our farm excursion next term.

KP

I can’t believe that we are at the end of Term 3, 2 terms together as KP. Amazing!

This term we had the pleasure of hosting a teacher in training and we did lots of fun and exciting activities. We are learning about narratives and information texts and how to differentiate between the two. In maths, we have continued to practise our counting skills and learnt about representing numbers in various ways such as on a rekenrek and part part whole. In history we looked at different ways that people celebrate and in science we learnt about the weather and its effect on animals and plants, along with different materials used to make things. Mrs Williams has started coming in teaching the students about coding using the dashbots and the iPads.

Stage 2:

2/3A

These last few weeks in 2/3A we’ve been learning to use graphs to represent data. We have been learning about many different graphs and how some can have many-to-one scales. We also looked at how to put fractions on a number line.

In writing we have been learning about Ned Kelly and his green sash. We looked at what he did during his life and have been writing about different perspectives while using interrogative sentences. We have learnt about antonyms and synonyms and how we can use these in our writing. We learnt about tiered words to make our writing more interesting. We looked at a book called Deadly Science which taught us all about space.

In science, we have been learning about how animals live and the life cycles of plants and animals.

Some of the Year 3 students went to their first gala day.

In music we have been learning to keep rhythm and beat.

We have also been learning about the importance of physical activity. We have also learnt about being kind and respectful.

We have been participating in NAIDOC activities. Yesterday, we joined Jump Rope for Heart’s ‘Jump Off Day’.

3/4M

It has been an exciting few weeks for 3/4M, starting with the stage 2 excursion to Symbio Wildlife Park! We all had the opportunity to experience seeing a range of animals up close and learn about their life cycles, we even got a chance to feed some of them. We have been working hard in writing, learning about the Bushranger Ned Kelly and his life, as well as learning about decimals in Maths. We have been practising our skipping skills and participated in the Jump Rope for Heart jump off day, where we completed a range of different activities demonstrating our skipping skills! We look forward to the holidays and all the new learning opportunities coming in Term 3!

4LH

🌱 Exciting Discoveries in Science! 🌱

This term has been all about exploring the fascinating world of living things in 4LH! Last week, our curious minds took on a hands-on experiment to germinate seeds. We placed dwarf bean seeds in zip lock bags with damp paper towels and set them up on our sunny window. To our delight, we began to see signs of life sprouting before our eyes!

The excitement doesn't stop there! We're eagerly anticipating the next step: planting our little green friends in the garden next term so they can thrive and grow. Stay tuned for more updates on our gardening adventure! 🌿✨

Stage 3

56BG

This term, our enthusiastic Year 6 Buddy leaders have taken on the exciting role of STEM educators, stepping into classrooms to engage younger students with hands-on activities. Each Buddy group researched and selected a variety of fun and educational experiments to inspire curiosity and creativity. Among the activities showcased were the mesmerising magic rainbow milk, the captivating lava lamps, and the engineering challenge of building bridges. Students also enjoyed the thrilling egg drop experiment, created their very own cloud in a jar, and marvelled at the vibrant walking rainbow. These interactive sessions not only fostered a love for science and innovation but also strengthened the bonds between our Year 6 leaders and their buddies, making learning a truly collaborative experience.
