F/1/2 CLASSROOM

What a busy and vibrant semester it has been in the F/1/2 classroom!

With reports just around the corner, it’s a wonderful time to pause and reflect on the exceptional learning, creativity, and growth that has taken place across all learning areas.

Religious Education

This semester, students explored the richness of our faith through units in the strands of Prayer and Discernment, Church and Tradition, Creation and Stewardship, and Sacraments. They learned that prayer can take many forms and is a meaningful way to talk and listen to God. As we moved through Lent, Easter, and Pentecost, students deepened their understanding of key seasons and symbols of the Church year and recognised the important role the Holy Spirit continues to play today. Students also explored Baptism and the Church as a welcoming community of faith and belonging.

Literacy

Across Literacy, students have been immersed in a wide range of reading, spelling, writing, and speaking and listening experiences. They have strengthened their understanding of phonics—particularly digraphs, trigraphs, and tricky words—and are transferring this knowledge confidently into both reading and spelling tasks. In writing, students have been learning to structure their ideas with a growing sense of audience and purpose. They’ve been developing their grammar knowledge, practising how to use adjectives, verbs, adverbs, and nouns, and applying these skills across a variety of written genres.

Mathematics

In Maths, students have explored number, pattern, place value, and measurement. They are developing strong number sense through activities focused on counting forwards and backwards, identifying number patterns, and applying their place value understanding to solve addition and subtraction problems. Students have also investigated informal measurement, using hands-on tools to explore length and capacity. A particular focus has been on using number lines and part-part-whole models to represent mathematical thinking.

Auslan

Students have continued to enjoy Auslan lessons and are becoming more confident using sign language to express greetings, emotions, animals, colours, numbers, and simple sentence structures. It’s been wonderful to see them recognise Auslan as a valuable and inclusive form of communication.

Inquiry

Our Inquiry units this semester focused on Geography and Biological Science. Students explored the idea of “place,” beginning with their homes and local communities before expanding their understanding to include broader Australian contexts such as states and territories. In Science, students investigated the characteristics of living and nonliving things and how animals and plants meet their needs through their environments. These units were brought to life through engaging discussions, hands-on learning, and research opportunities.

As we look ahead to the remainder of the term, we’re incredibly proud of the growth, enthusiasm, and effort shown by each and every student. They are building strong learning foundations and developing the confidence to share their ideas, support their peers, and take on new challenges.

Well done, F/1/2! Keep up the fantastic work!
