School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)

School-wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)

Toolamba Primary School is a SWPBS school. SWPBS is a globally recognised, evidence-based approach that improves behaviour, wellbeing, and learning for children and young people. When implemented effectively, SWPBS allows teachers and students to spend more time building positive relationships and focusing on learning.

It benefits everyone by:

  • increasing respectful and positive behaviour
  • allowing more time for focused learning in the classroom
  • enhancing social and emotional wellbeing
  • strengthening positive and respectful relationships between students and staff
  • creating safe, orderly, and supportive school environments

Our Expected Behaviours

At Toolamba Primary School, we have expected behaviours that align with our school values (Inclusive, Trustworthy, Respectful and Kind). The expected behaviours for each of our school values can be found in our SWPBS matrix, which is displayed in all classrooms and referred to often. As part of our wellbeing lessons, teachers model, explicitly teach and give students the opportunity to practice these behaviours.

Tokens

Students are enjoying earning tokens when they showcase these expected behaviours and having lots of success in helping others with our school values and expected behaviours.

Shoppers

We had lots of shoppers again this week! We also have some rewards that can be purchased from their classroom teachers. This includes rewards such as free time, games with teachers and special lunches. This is what some of the shoppers had to say about their purchases:

Laura - I picked the pencil clip because I wanted to put it on my pencil.

Nixon - I liked the squishy and I'm going to keep saving up some of my tokens to get something bigger next time!

Jep, Lincoln, Ted - We bought lunch in another class with a different teacher because we've never been in the 5/6 room and we thought it would be something cool! Look out for photos of this in next week's newsletter!
