Tommy Lahiff AFLW Cup

Last Friday, 20th June, the SKiPPS AFLW team proudly represented our school at the Tommy Lahiff Cup – a local tournament with schools from across the area. We played three back-to-back matches before a well-earned lunch break, followed by a final game to decide the placings.
The perfect weather was matched by our team’s positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and fierce determination. Our tackling stood out all day—we made it tough for our opponents to break away and, thanks to some brilliant goal-saving efforts and strong defence, they found it just as hard to score.
As the games went on, we began to grow in confidence and settle into our positions. We started spreading out, looking for teammates, and supporting one another. Led by a strong group of Year 6 students, players began to take risks—breaking tackles and carrying the ball forward with increasing courage. A special mention goes to Sarah, Poppy and Emily, who repeatedly stormed down the field, refusing to be stopped—even when opponents were hanging off them!
Finishing in 3rd place and winning our final match so convincingly was a fantastic way to round off a big day of growth, fun and footy. It’s exciting to think what this team could achieve with a few more games under their belt!
A heartfelt thank you to Sarah Finney for her support throughout the day, and to all the parents who came along to cheer us on. The team loved having you there—it made the day even more special.
A huge thank you to Bec Walton for these amazing photos of the day. https://www.becwalton.com.au
