Albert Park Habitat Revival – Planting Day Success

Last Thursday, many of our students, staff and parent helpers took part in something pretty special. Throughout the day, different classes and groups made their way to the grassy area beside the Pencil Park to roll up their sleeves and help plant over 2,400 indigenous grasses, shrubs and trees as part of the Albert Park Habitat Revival Project.

This inspiring initiative aims to transform a 400-square-metre patch of underused lawn into a thriving habitat corridor. Once established, it will support local biodiversity, connect natural areas and serve as a rich, outdoor learning space for our students and the wider community.

The planting day was a huge success. Across the sessions, students enthusiastically dug, planted and learned about the native plants and animals of 'Euro-Yroke' — the Boon Wurrung name for St Kilda. The after-school community planting session also saw many families return with gloves and gumboots, helping complete the final stage of planting.

This project was sparked by two of our own SKiPPS parents — Nadav and Allison — who had the vision and drive to bring it to life. Their leadership, in partnership with the Port Phillip EcoCentre and Parks Victoria, helped secure funding through the Bupa Healthy Cities Landcare Project and made this important environmental initiative a reality for our community.

A heartfelt thank you to Nadav, Allison and all of the families, students, staff and volunteers who helped on the day. The site is already looking amazing, and we’re excited to see it flourish over the coming months and years.

We look forward to watching this beautiful new space grow into something truly special.
