A message from the Principal

Continuing Our Commitment to Reconciliation

Next Monday morning (30th June), our school’s Reconciliation Group will come together for an important meeting and all members of our school community are warmly invited to join us. We’ll be meeting at 8:15am in the school’s meeting room (located in the main office).

This group plays a key role in guiding our school’s reconciliation journey. At Monday’s meeting, we will reflect on the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) we developed together in 2022, take time to celebrate the progress and successes so far, and begin the important work of identifying how we can build on this foundation with a renewed plan for the future. We’ll also be discussing our plans to mark NAIDOC Week, which will be celebrated at the beginning of Term 3.

At SKiPPS, we remain deeply committed to advancing reconciliation through truth-telling, learning, respectful relationships and meaningful action. Our RAP has helped guide this work in tangible ways over the past two years, and we’re proud of the many steps we’ve taken so far. But we also recognise that reconciliation is ongoing work, and there is always more we can do.

Our work in this space aligns closely with the Department of Education’s Marrung Aboriginal Education Plan 2016–2026, which outlines a bold and inclusive vision: that

"all Koorie Victorians achieve their learning aspirations, and that the knowledge and experiences of First Nations people are recognised and valued by all Victorians."

The Marrung plan highlights the importance of cultural inclusion, strong partnerships with community, and embedding Aboriginal perspectives across learning environments - aspirations we continue to strive for here at SKiPPS.

We hope to see many of you on Monday morning as we reflect, plan and continue working together to ensure our school is a place where all cultures are respected and celebrated, and where reconciliation is not just acknowledged, but lived. Please let me know if you are coming by emailing me on neil.scott@education.vic.gov.au
