Student-led Conferences - Tuesday 1st July and Wednesday 2nd July.

This week, I have been very excited to be walking around the school to see and hear how our students are preparing for the upcoming Student-led Conferences. There have been role plays, group discussions of work samples and revisiting learning goals. Students' enthusiasm for their learning has been admirable and a huge thank you to the amazing teachers who have offered support and guidance to students, so they feel comfortable and confident to share their learning. I hope you all are as excited as I am!

I stopped to pause and ask a few students:

What are you most excited about for the Student-Led Conferences?

Blaire 1M " I am looking forward to welcoming my Mum and Dad and showing them all my good work, I have been doing. I want to show them my writing because I think it's very good "

Summer 6W " I am looking forward to celebrating all my learning like sharing the narratives I have written and showing my writing about reading tasks. I have done a lot of work with writing about reading and I'm proud to show my pictures and share my thoughts. I also want to show my Maths Reflection Journal"

Tiffany FD " I am looking forward to sharing my work with Mum and Dad because they love my work. I also want to show them my classroom"

Lyla 5D " I am excited to show my writing draft and be proud of my work. I can't wait to show it to my Mum and Dad.

Harry 3/4C "I am feeling really happy and good about the Student Led Conferences. I would like to show my parents my work because I think it's good. I really want to show them my writing piece on Sorry Day"

Devika 2W " I want to show my Mum and Dad my writing because I have been working on writing a procedure and telling someone how to do something"

Isabelle 3B "I am looking forward to showing my Mum and Dad my writing piece and I also can't wait to show them my fluency read because I have been practising. I am a bit nervous, but I know it will be fun"

Claire 5D " I am looking forward to sharing my Maths learning with my Mum and Dad because we did 24 hr. time and I am really proud of what I learnt because it was hard"

I also want to share a link with you of an article I read in the Age a few weeks ago. It talks about how many schools are facilitating 'parent teacher meetings' differently and reassures me that Karoo Primary School is definitely ahead in providing opportuntiies for our students to be active participants in their learning. It also shares some useful tips for parents/carers so please have a read.

Parent-teacher interviews have changed. Here’s how to navigate them well

Please don't forget to book an appointment time through Compass for your child's Student Led Conference and look out for a post next week sharing some tips for parents/carers on how to be part of a successful Student Led Conference.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend and I will see you around our wonderful school!

Warm Regards,
