16th June 2025   Leo

This week’s Superhero Award is presented to a student who consistently demonstrates the values of Respect, Pride and Care. Leo speaks with kindness, treats his peers, teachers and learning environment with thoughtfulness, and consistently shows consideration for the needs of others. Pride shines through in the sense of accomplishment he shows when a task is completed, and in the stories and reflections he shares about the topics, ideas, and experiences he values.

A quiet leader, Leo notices what needs to be done, checks first to see if support is needed, and steps in thoughtfully to help. He helps to create a calm, safe and supportive space for everyone. In fact, his classroom teacher often hears from past educators about how Leo has made his learning space a better place through his peaceful, positive presence. He is the master of meeting classroom expectations.

In the classroom and beyond, Leo brings creativity, humour, and joy to his interactions with peers and teachers. His Dog Man drawings are admired, his enthusiasm for Jurassic Park sparks great conversations, and his love of cooking often features in chats and shared stories.

Always with a small smile, Leo shows what it means to demonstrate our school’s values every day. Congratulations Leo, you are a true Superhero.

23rd June 2025  Clark

This week’s Superhero is receiving the award for Responsibility and Care.

Clark is someone who follows all the school behaviour expectations and ensures he represents the school values every day. His behaviour is very appreciated by all those that he encounters.

Although a quiet achiever, Clark's classmates and teachers appreciate his thoughtful contributions to class discussions and group activities. It is also delightful to see his wry sense of humour more and more - particularly in his written work.

Clark is to be congratulated for demonstrating the school expectation of ‘Do Your Best’, by persevering with the presentation of his handwriting, in particular. Clark should be so proud of his efforts!

With an avid interest in history, you know you are up for a range of topics when having a chat with Clark. You may end up discussing medieval times, the wooden horse of Troy or his keen interest in the classic series – Lord of the Rings (his written texts will give you a greater insight into this!)

Being a caring and loyal friend is also a quality that Clark puts into practice on a daily basis. He quietly supports others, checking in with them and offering help, by always being understanding and helping others enjoy their time at school.

We truly do have such a worthy Superhero in the 3/4 Unit – showing responsibility, perseverance and care… Keep it up, legend! We love having you in Studio 9.

Pyjama Day - TOMORROW

This Friday, 27 June, students are invited to wear their pyjamas to school for Pyjama Day!

To support the Kyneton Foodbank (The Kindness Collective), students are encouraged to bring a gold coin donation and/or non-perishable food items. Food donations can be dropped off at the office.

Please ensure your child wears something warm with their pyjamas. If not dressing up, students must wear full school uniform. As it is muddy and wet, suitable footwear is essential.

Thank you for supporting this important student-led initiative.

Carpark Safety

We would like to address some important safety concerns regarding carpark use, and we kindly ask for your cooperation.

Kindergarten Carpark

We have been made aware that some families are using the kindergarten carpark who are not attending the kindergarten. This carpark is reserved exclusively for kindergarten families. If you have both kindergarten and school-aged children and need to park there, please ensure you use the ramp to access the school grounds.

The increased traffic in this area is making it difficult for kindergarten families to find parking and is also creating a safety risk due to the higher volume of foot traffic. Please also note that the gate between the kindergarten and school is now locked — children should not be lifted over the gate under any circumstances.

School Carpark

The school carpark has vehicles moving in and out throughout the day. For safety reasons, we ask that pedestrians do not use the stairs near the flag poles and then walk through the carpark as a shortcut. The designated ramp or steps are to be used when entering or exiting the school.

Thank you for your support in helping keep all members of our school and kindergarten community safe.

School Crossing Safety – A Reminder from Macedon Ranges Shire Council

As we approach the end of the school holidays, it’s a timely reminder for all parents, carers and students to prioritise safety when travelling to and from school.

We’ve recently observed a number of children crossing roads unsafely – without stopping, looking, or using the supervised crossing. While we understand it can be more convenient to cross at other points, using the designated school crossing is the safest option.

Our School Crossing Supervisors are trained to help children cross safely and are present during peak times to manage traffic and ensure visibility. To help keep everyone safe, we ask that families:

  • always use the supervised school crossing where available

  • encourage children to stop, look, and listen before crossing

  • walk bikes or scooters across the road

  • lead by example – children are more likely to follow safe practices when adults do the same.

Let’s work together to keep our school community safe and make road safety a daily habit for our children.

Regards,

Local Laws Team

Macedon Ranges Shire Council

Stay Healthy This Winter

As we move through the winter months, it's important that we all work together to keep our school community as healthy as possible.

Colds, flu, and other illnesses tend to circulate more during this time of year. To help minimise the spread and keep everyone safe, we kindly ask for your continued support with the following:

Keep Children Home if They Are Unwell

If your child is showing any signs of illness—such as a fever, persistent cough, sore throat, vomiting, or feeling generally unwell—please keep them at home until they have fully recovered. This helps protect their classmates, teachers, and other families.

Encourage Good Hygiene Habits

We are reinforcing the importance of:

  • Washing hands regularly with soap and water

  • Using tissues to cover coughs and sneezes (and disposing of them properly)

Your support in reinforcing these habits at home makes a big difference. Thank you for helping us keep our school a healthy and happy place to learn.

PLAY Program at KPS

The "PLAY Program" for schools, also known as "Positivity, Leadership and Activated Youth," is a program designed to train student leaders in Year 5 and 6 to lead safe and fun activities for their peers and younger students during breaks. So far this year we have focussed on Prep and Year 1 or Year 2 students. PLAY Program operates during lunch time on Thursdays and is coordinated by our wonderful Mr Armitage (Mr A).

This program promotes confidence, relationship skills, inclusion, and belonging while encouraging physical activity, social skills, and cooperation among students of all ages and abilities. It's a structured program that aims to improve the overall school environment by fostering positive social interactions and engagement.

Key aspects of the PLAY Program:

  • Student Leadership:

The program trains selected students to become leaders who facilitate activities and interactions.

  • Structured Activities:

The program provides a framework for activities that promote physical activity, social skills, and cooperation.

  • Inclusivity and Belonging:

The program aims to create a welcoming environment where all students feel included and valued.

  • Positive Social Interactions:

The program encourages positive peer interactions and relationships.

School Saving Bonus- Important Information

The SSB Parent Portal will close at the end of June.

This means Parents/Guardians will no longer have access to the portal.

What you should do now –

  • If you would like to use SSB for uniforms, place orders now as you will not be able to use SSB for uniforms after June.

  • Transfer any remaining funds in the portal to Activities.

While funds remaining in the portal will automatically transfer to the school for use for your child/ren this will not happen until the end of August. This means the school will not be able to access these funds so you will need to pay for any excursions or events during this time.

New School Uniform Supplier - Lowes

Our uniform distributor, A Plus Schoolwear, has sold the company to Lowes from the 1st July 2025. The manufacturing still remains with AGS Prints so you will not see any changes to the style or quality of our uniforms.

Please see below some important dates and key information regarding the transition into the Lowes stores:

  • 1st July to 13th July 2025 – Due to the scale of this transition, families will be unable to purchase school uniforms during this period.

  • Lowes In-store Launch – 14th July 2025 – Uniforms will be available for purchase both in-store and online from this date.

  • Existing back orders – These will continue to be fulfilled and delivered to schools by APLUS Schoolwear.

Purchases will be able to be made directly from Lowes at Lansell Plaza in Kangaroo Flat, Bendigo, who will hold a full range in all sizes.

Lowes offer special sale days throughout the year and a reward and zero card system.

Take On The Kids! - KPS Charity Chess Night

The Chess Tournament to raise funds for the Cancer Council Victoria held on Friday night was a great success, both in terms of participation and fundraising.

Five rounds of “rapid chess” for 14-minute duration were held. The atmosphere of the event was engaging for everyone involved. The concentration was high as children and adults challenged each other accompanied by a background of classical music and spectators. There was plenty of fun along the way and sausages and drinks available to keep everyone fuelled.

It was evident the skill students have gained from their sessions with Tim Davis (chess coach) by the number of students going head-to-head with parents. The final competitors were Henry Hull (student) and Jayden Andrea (parent). Jayden won the event and everyone enjoyed the night.

Thank you to Tim and Sucheta for all your work in planning, organising and running this event. Thank you also to people who helped in so many ways whether it was preparing for the night, on the night or being a player or spectator, it all contributed to the success.

$921 was raised and has been sent to the Cancer Council Victoria.
