Monday 16 June: Year 1 Nudgee Beach Excursion

Students will be catching a bus from Ironside State School at 8:45am to Fortitude St Car Park. 10:50am catching a bus to Nudgee Beach Environmental Centre. Returning at 2:45pm.

Thursday 19 June: Year 3 Botanical Gardens Excursion

Students will be catching a bus from Ironside State School at 8:45am to Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt. Coot-tha. Returning at ISS at 1:45pm.

Chess Tournament

On Wednesday 11th June, our school proudly participated in this year's regional chess tournament, showcasing strategic brilliance and sportsmanship. Eight of our Ironside students travelled to Windsor State School to compete, where they demonstrated exceptional focus, critical thinking, and team spirit. 

We had two teams entered, one in C division and one in B division. Throughout the day, each student played seven matches against students from other schools. Our C division team of Leon Wong, Alexandra Shen, Benjamin Leung, and Atharva Mamillapalli won a combined 15 of their 28 matches, finishing 5th out of 20 teams. Individually, Atharva finished 6th out of 57 students in C division and was awarded a merit ribbon for winning 5 of his 7 matches.

Our B division team of Hugo Casey, Kahil Amor, Charlie Paschkewitz, and Ahammad Jabeer won an impressive 21 of their 28 matches. This meant they finished first overall out of 25 teams in B division and received winners medals for their efforts. Individually, Hugo and Kahil both won 5.5 of their 7 matches (draws count for half a win) and finished inside the top 10 from a field of 81 students in B division. They were also both awarded merit ribbons. Lastly, Charlie won 6.5 of his 7 matches finishing 1st overall and going home with a second medal around his neck.

Congratulations to all our chess players! It was an amazing effort from both teams and even though we were successful overall, learning from our losses was also important. We are already looking forward to the next tournament in Term 3!
