Principal's Message

Term 2, Week 9

Hi Everyone,

Today is Cleaner’s Day and I would like to thank our wonderful, cheerful, hard working group of people who strive to make our school a lovely place to be  -  thank you team!!

Wasn’t the 3-6 Athletics Carnival such a magic day?!  Though it was cold, the sunshine was delicious.  It was perfect weather for the children to enjoy being outside and physical.  I witnessed some wonderful sports-person-ship and some outstanding, impressive sporting moments.  Congratulations to all of the children; gosh you are such a delightful collection of individuals.  Thank you to all of our wonderful staff who were helping all over the place, as well as beautiful parent volunteers who leant a hand.  Huge SHOUT-OUTS to Mr Nathan Reardon our PE teacher, who organised the entire day and what an organisational feat it was.  I wonder who the winning house was?  Watch this space!

Thank you to everyone who came to the information session about our School Strategic Plan and PLD.  It is not easy for everyone to get to all of the things that pop up at schools and so we have filmed this session and will publish it for you soon.

The Ironside State School Chess Team did wonderfully in the Interschool Chess Tournament last week!  Thank you to Mr Tim Shepherd and Mr Neil Malcolm their coaches.  The children always arrive to their classrooms eager to get playing at lunchtimes.  See Mr Shepherd’s write up about how they went, further in the newsletter.

Congratulations to all of the very deserving award recipients from the 4-6 Merit Assembly!

The Senior Band were truly wonderful at assembly last week, what a performance from them and Mr James Kukulies  -  Thank you!!  This week is a whole school STAR assembly and the Small String Ensemble will be performing.

Coming up this week:

  • Year 1 Nudgee Beach Excursion  -  Monday 16th June & Tuesday 17th June

  • Strings Soiree  -  Monday 16th June at 6pm

  • Band Soiree  -  Tuesday 17th June at 6pm

  • Year 3 Botanical Gardens Excursion  -  Thursday 19th June

  • Whole School STAR Assembly  -  Friday 20th June at 9:15am  -  Small String Ensemble performing

  • Religious Instruction  -  Friday 20th June

Tonight and tomorrow night will be a feast for our ears, as we have the Strings & Choir Soiree tonight and the Band Soiree tomorrow night, both at 6:30pm.  We are so lucky to have such exceptional instrumental music programs in our school!

There will be some sand arriving home with some year 1 children today (and tomorrow) after they have been to Nudgee Beach.  I believe it was a fantastic excursion out to the environmental education centre there.  The beach is such a special place!  Thank you to Mrs Tara Griffin and our Year 1 team for planning and organising this wonderful learning experience for the year 1 children.

Our Year 3 children are going to the Botanical Gardens this Thursday too, to compliment the learning they have been undertaking this term.  I can’t wait to hear all about it!

I want to thank Education Queensland who has supported a large group of early career teachers from our school to attend a beginning teachers workshop for a day at the Education Futures Institute last week.  I know all of our teachers who went got an enormous amount out of it.

I would like to welcome Ms Sameen Arshad to our team.  Ms Arshad will be transitioning into our Communication Officer role.  I also want to welcome Mr Declan Wenzel-Halls who started with us as the Year 3-6 Support Teacher.  Mrs Leesa Palmer is also on some well-deserved leave until the end of term 3 and so we are also welcoming Ms Karen Ho to our school.

Have a great week everyone!

Yours in Education,

Angie Kelly
