Wellbeing Report

As the end of term approaches, we are seeing many tired kids coming into school each day. With only one week to go of this term, we are all eagerly looking forward to the break that the holidays gives the students to recharge their batteries ready for term 3.
Next term holds many exciting events across the school, including the 100 days of prep celebration, grade 3/4 camp, swimming lessons and the dance concerts. It is great to start early positive talk about these upcoming events, especially if you know your child may feel nervous for them. We encourage families to talk to your child’s teacher if you or your child have any questions about upcoming events. Sometimes a simple conversation can ease a world of worry!
Uniting also offers some fabulous free courses during term three for families, as seen below.
Further information on other events can be found by searching

We’ll see you around the school!

Whole Brain Child – By Daniel J. Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson
Integrating the left and right brain
It is common knowledge that we have two very separate parts of our brain, the logical left side and the emotional right side. In their book the Whole Brain Child, Daniel J. Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson encourage parents to help their children to use both parts of their brain as a team. They present two steps that every parent can do to help their children through the storm of big emotions. These are, connect and redirect and name it to tame it. When helping a child who is overcome with emotion, build a connection with the child. Use your emotional side of the brain to understand how they feel, listen to them, let them tell their story, this will help their brain to make sense of their experience and to build back some control. Once they have had the opportunity to share their feelings and they are in control and receptive, that is the time to bring lessons and discipline into the conversation.
Breakfast Club
Winter is here and warm breakfast options are available. We have small bowls of canned spaghetti alongside our regular toast and fruit options. So many children have been attending breakfast club lately that we have been running out of toast. Please remind your child that if they want to have something to eat before school that they need to head straight down to the German Room. While the music for the bell is playing there are only fruit cups and milk drinks available.
